2020 BeatMachine

Damn you for making me look that up again

Sorry dude(but was i wrong tho?!)

Edit: I didn’t know if I spelled that right, and I sure as heck wasn’t going to look it up to check)

Hi, do you mean fun, not funny? Is it enjoyable to use?

Do you use any midi controllers with it?

Interested in the flexibility of its midi mapping.

Also, if you’re in contact with the developer, please can you ask for a way of trialling the software, and a proper license we can sell on if we don’t like it.

Making it a plugin would help sell many more copies, too!

Looks like Microtonic is still the beatmachine king.

yeah, fun [redacted]
I’m not using any controller and I’m not in contact with the developer, but you can try here:

Haha, no worries. I had my suspicions, so I just squinted at the screen. You were right, though!

I did try! They didn’t seem that responsive tbh. Can only hope they see sense.

To me, it seems like a no-brainer to make this a VST, allow trialling of the software, and have a proper license you can sell on.

Maybe they don’t like money? :man_shrugging:t2:

I love Microtonic hugely, own a PO32 too.

But it’s not really a comparison.

Microtonic is a an 8-voice drum synth. This has a whole lot more going on!

I really hope it gains some traction. The demos are a little overdone in terms of glitch etc.

Maybe Beardyman can a do a better demo (noticed he commented on the demo video).

Just saw this on youtube. It’s quite intriguing. If it was hardware, it would be a very expensive modular machine, I suspect.

To be honest, over the time I watched this video, I was able to come to grips with the GUI. It is obviously crowded, but compared to some people’s modular rigs, it is not that bad.

Downsides have been mentioned, pricepoint is high for something you can’t trial or transfer the license. That said, the upsides appear to be potential creation of incredibly unique sample chops, beats and percussion lines.

I don’t know, my initial view of this has me ingtrigued.

Some nice tutorials:

This can make some pretty chaotic beats. How would it do for chopping up loops? I feel like this could be pretty powerful on synth, vocal loops…etc. And then for house/garage/minimal etc…(more traditional drum beats) , it could be really good for creating unique grooves. Does that sound right or am I not really thinking of it in the proper context?

If it’s on the app store, you can get a refund very easily by going to https://reportaproblem.apple.com/

there’s two options:

  • SLC, a sample slicer with sequencer
  • inside GRP4 there’s a simple sample slicer you can sequence with SEQ4

Thank you!

Yes it’s true. I’ve only ever returned one app. Not sure how long you can own it etc before a refund is not allowed.

I’d ideally like to trial it safely, for a while, without buying actually buying it, to see if I like it enough.

Also, you can’t sell on Apps, can you? A license we can sell on would sit better with me.

I’ll often buy Ipad apps I don’t use afterwards, I don’t mind because it supports the developer and its a small amount of money.

This is a fair amount of money for me! Even either a proper trial OR a resellable license and I’d buy this for sure.

Anyone else have user experiences to share?

Definitely picking this up tomorrow, really excited to give it a spin.
The sequencer looks really fun with being able to choose different time divisions per sections.

I remember way back when this launched, cool to see if finally getting a ā€˜proper’ release. It looks like it’s not based on the original Max patch anymore? In any case looks cool.

Yeah not sure about this one. Looks like it’s maybe a month? Anything I bought more than a month ago isn’t available for refund.

Yeah, it sucks you can’t sell it on, especially at the price. But I think it’d be pretty easy to get a feel for whether or not you get along with it over a month.

Wow if its a month that’s fantastic!

I’ll get it if so and report my experiences here.

I want it to be good, and do well. Sometimes these all-in-one grooveboxes can really be fun!

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

Seven years in the making, seems like a real labour of love for the dev!

Apparently recoded from the ground up six times in that time :grimacing:

Just checked, as far as I can tell its 14 days, here in the UK. It varies by region though.

looks very interesting. personally I really dislike using the mouse, especially on something that size.

would be cool if you there was an extensive keymap with key combos to navigate, enter trigs, n adjust parameters 100% from mac keyboard. i see you can map most stuff, but you’d really need combo’s to go 100% without mouse.

Me too.

I have a lot of MIDI controllers, a silly amount for some, 4 Launchpads, 3 Launchcontrol XLs, Launchkey, Nektar P6, PadKontrol.

In my big Ableton live rig everything is mapped, over 1000 CCs :grinning:

I’m thinking a similar thing might be possible here?

Also I find the mouse is fine when setting up, as long as you can perform without it.

2020 has an insane amount of OSC parameters mappable too, should be able to control it like that too if you have spare Ipads.

Its early days to be fair, tell the dev what you need they might implement it!
