1010music nanobox lemondrop : new granular synth

The size is quite an amazing feat to me, and I can bring it with me anywhere.

Out of curiosity : What can you do with it outside the studio or when traveling ?
Can you compose sequences or record stuff with it ?

I have small hands and to me the interface definitely felt fiddly. Not unusable but just a bit too small. But to each their own.

I mainly make patches for later use, but also just play around with pad and drone patches via the piano roll. No recording, so its more just noodling.

These sound like great updates. I haven’t got a lemon box, but have been watching it with interest since release. Looks a great device.

Anyone knows if this little device could be used as a xy midi cc controller pad ?
It could be useful for morph & scene hacks on a Digitakt.

Could you explain the hack? I might want to try this on the Syntakt if it’s possible. I’m pretty sure you can send the midi ccs from the X and Y out separately from the lemondrop

Edit: you can only edit the ccs for input into the XY pad. You cannot send those ccs back out from the XY pad tho, so you cannot use the XY pad as a midi controller as it stands

Isn’t that for input though? Not that I’ve tried it, but I haven’t seen anywhere it sends control or note data. I think the midi out is just for pass through. Could be wrong though.

You are correct! I’ll edit my comment to make it clear you cannot send the ccs from the XY pad. Would be a really cool feature tho

Yeah, it would be a nice little box for when you’re on the sofa or something programming a desk or rack unit without effects too, sending midi and using the drops effects.

Sending CCs from the XY pad is a good idea, and one we’ve heard from folks before. Thanks for bringing it up again. (Walks over to the backlog and makes a note.)

Indeed, it would be useful for morphing between sounds & effects and having a 3-axis scene on a device like the Digitakt.

Any chance adding midi out from the on screen keyboard too? Reason as above. Thank you.

 You bet. It’s on the list.

No promises as to if and when, of course — but we do listen and take ideas like this into account.

Can the lemondrop be powered by the OP-1 Field via usb-c?

I can’t remember if I’ve specifically done that or not, and I’m traveling and don’t have my lemondrop with me, so I can’t check. Maybe somebody else can?

But yes, it ought to work.

Don’t take my word for it until someone else tries it or I get back week-after-next and do it myself.

Note that the lemondrop doesn’t do USB MIDI or audio out that port, so all you’d be able to do is power it.

Something like OP-1F -> USB power -> lemondrop and then OP-1F -> audio out -> lemondrop audio in could be cool, though. Or cross the streams and use the OP-1F to sample the lemondrop.

I’m 99% sure it works. I know I’ve tried that before. Same with the Micromonsta and some other smaller synths. Super fun to just plug in and power through the op1f!

Yes still got mine. I think it is a pretty magical box that really adds a different (and super high quality) dimension to my sound. I hope to keep it long term.

I don’t think it gets mentioned enough but it feels really solidly built. Which is important considering it’s portability.

I mean, if it’s good enough for Surgeon. Pictured here in Detroit with Speedy J as ā€˜Multiples’. I was at their gig in Berlin just last night - v impressed! Also (repeatedly) impressed with the Lemondrop. It’s pretty damn deep.

Wish it were BB size but it isn’t, wish the firmware could be swapped but it can’t (until someone hacks it), wish it was cheaper, wish it didn’t sound so damn good!

Conclusion: I still want a Lemondrop.
