Most likely. I tried that rig with a few kits. Always noise in the way. I sampled it and filed it under ambience.
Of course you did. <3
(I am terribly behind on my email… )
No worries take care, you.
I haven’t found a dual port power bank that doesn’t create buzz in that scenario.
Luckily the BB is about the size of two average power banks🙂.
Add some Velcro and a baby cable into the mix and you have….
model numbers for those power banks or it didn’t happen.

There’s probably better deals out there but these fit the bb nicely and have an led battery% vs dots.

Did 1010 ever add cue outs, or some other mechanism, to make it easier to send Blackbox audio out through external effects and back in for recording?
Yep.
Here’s how I do it -
Assign whatever you want to send out to fx, to Output 2. Route that Output 2 to your outboard fx. Route that fx back into the Blackbox In. To monitor and avois feedback, set your recording output to Output 3, and plug in your monitoring source there (in my case, usually the headphones.)
Careful, tho. The individual outputs are hot. Approach this method with some caution to your ears.
That’s an awesome little setup.
I have a slightly less conventional way of handling wet/dry recording - I do it in two passes. The Blackbox is synced to a Cirklon sequencer where all the notes live. In the first pass I send just the raw instrument from the desk. In the second pass the effects. That way I have them separate later and can even start at different points so they loop oddly. You can have even more fun if Cirklon has been told to occasionally play a note an octave higher or repeat a note or whatever. If this has no equivalence in the FX recording or the random event occurs at another point and is maybe different (e. g. an octave lower), the results are very pleasantly freaky and unexpected.
New to the forum and just wanted to say that I really like the stuff you’ve produced using Blackbox. Exactly the sort of thing I was looking for when researching this device. Spirit of BOC in there in terms of evoking memories, etc. Excellent work.
Thank you, I appreciate that. The comparison is too flattering, the BoC are right up there with the best
Ooof. That is high risk, high reward. Those Eurorack level audio signals could be deadly. Maybe an in-line attenuator… Hmmm…
Yes. Caution is advised. But it works, with some care. I usually record with the gain set to be around -10 -5 and at that level, I can monitor the signal and then if it just gets too loud, I put the headphones away and just let the resampling finish.
Is it the case that one cannot record a sequence into an “empty” pad? Say I want to play keys into the sequencer while monitoring via another pad (got that sorted), do I need to load a dummy sample for anything to actually record into the sequence? I can hear the synth and it responds to my external controller wires through the BB, but no MIDI data is recorded into the Seq.
Yep a sample is required. Load it up and mute it.
Some fair points in that video. I also wish the BlackBox had more internal effects. And some internal modulation would be splendid.
But then again, I am still exploring and wrapping my head around mine.
Yes.
Another Blackbox something. All samples, clips and loops are my own, mostly from a Prophet 12 and some Chase Bliss resampling -
