1010music Blackbox

The Blackbox is def worth the price, though you have to kind of appreciate most of what it does to feel that it’s worth it. It’s very defined in that respect. But you do pay for multiple outs, high quality converters, a very usable touch screen and so on. It’s pricey if you don’t embrace the package, for sure.

The only thing I don’t use on it is multi-sampling. That’s not so much on the Blackbox, I just don’t think multi-sampling works all that well even when it’s done right on any box. Having said that, I did multi-sample a patch I made on me Prophet not long ago, and that turned out quite well, so if you’re into it, the Blackbox does it well. But I keep missing these small, organic variations when I use multi samples, it’s like you can tell it’s on repeat, even if you apply the internal modulation options.

yeah I wouldn’t use it for that… I dunno what I’m missing, it almost seems like I should already have one  … thank you for sharing your insights repeatedly on this

what is it that draws you to the blackbox in spite of drambo, is it the tactility?

I just like hardware samplers :grinning:

Also I have cash from selling few bits of kit

I dj out regularly before covid and like to do the odd live set. I wouldn’t use the ipad out so a blackbox could be used for that

But mainly because I convince myself to buy things I don’t technically need and go on to forums like this which gives me gas lol

I think it’s all about the workflow. Features alone can’t really tell if it’s worth its money for your use case.

I was more than suspicious about its usefulness when I saw it out on YT videos. And then I tried it… and it turned out to be a real game changer in my case. So yeah, totally worth its price.

Maybe find someone in your area that can lend it to you.

Hi! this will be my next go-to thread as I traded my Akai Force for a newly Maschine+ which i then traded for a blackbox plus cash (which I used to buy mutable beads). :sunglasses:

Questions:

1.) Can i convert maschine expansions to multisamples?
2.) Best alternative to OctaEdits Sample Chainer? Reason? Ableton can’t export markers

Kitmaker can covert maschine packs to samples

I am asking why use the Blackbox when just for few more euros u can get an MPC One. Is there something that the Blackbox has on the Mpc One? Just wondering…

Maybe because of the workflow ? I’m not sure about functionnalities, i guess the mpc one is more like a daw in a box, which involve more menu diving or things to set up before starting making a beat ?
I like the blackbox because of it’s limitations. I’ve got just what i need and nothing more.

The size? The portability?

I really wish they would hire a designer to overhaul the UI. Engineers are great but don’t make the best experience designers

Tell that to Jomox

The one is the most streamlined out of the series i think. But personally i’m done with akai.

Ha. I’ve never used any jomox but everything except the resonator seems pretty straightforward

Most of the time, it’s just me and the Blackbox, tho.

Yeah, the SiX just kind of opens stuff up.

Simplicity. Long recording times.

Your music is really great, @circuitghost… what’s your workflow with the BB?

I’m considering adding one because the Digitakt isn’t quite the sampler I want it to be. I’d like to record longer musical parts along with one-shot stuff, then stretch and manipulate.
