No need to have a go at @KF6GPE - his intentions are good and honest, and 1010 does not deserve to be called silly on a forum where mutual respect of one another is foundation.
the term āsource of truthā is used quite widely to ensure people understand that despite comments/replies might be made on many forums , people should refer to the main single area for the authoritative response.
it doest mean anyone is lying or not telling āthe truthā
Thereās been flags on this discussion which is only one further misjudged word from heading south⦠try not to react for the sake of the discussion (which is about a specific product, not opinions on other matters)
I agree that a few words have been misjudged already, but letās move on ⦠back to the product only thanks
I liked but didnāt love BB1 and am finding the BB2 concept a lot more interesting.
And it does feel like a different concept. As long as BB1 is still useable then it can still serve its original purpose.
I prefer this (a push in a different direction) to just adding a 2 onto the original Blackbox.
BB2 feels more streamlined and less fiddly to me already.
I liked the short videos that came out with the Blackbox mk1. Really hit the spot way better than others who make one 45~60 minute video.
Iād like to see a video that points out quickly what the mk2 does that the mk1 doesnāt.
Canāt say I need anything more than what the mk1 has been doing for me all these years. But like cars, sometimes itās nice to have a new engine under the hood.
Also, wouldnāt mind knowing what DAC is being used ![]()
Thanks, @Megamind . Thatās what weāre hoping for. That said, it was a continual topic as to how much we should depart from the original, because over the years weāve gotten a lot of good feedback from folks who liked the original, and alienating that group is always a concern when you really depart from the design of a previous product. Time will tell, and I think I speak for everyone at the company when I say that we are looking forward to hearing and seeing how people make music with the instrument.
Thanks, @JamesM. Thatās good feedback as to how we should structure our video work. Iāll pass that back to folks.
(And I did check; those videos are on our short list to do! Stay tuned!)
Iāve had the BB2 a few days. Have not had too much time to play around. I have the original BB. Initial impressions are good. Size is slightly smaller in width than the original and lighter.
To me itās more intuitive than the original. Not too much menu diving with labels for what the knobs do in each menu.
Multisampling from an iPad was straightforward. Have not tried hardware synths.
Sound quality to my ears through headphones is similar to original.
Used it on a plane Perfect size for that.
Battery life is specified for three hours. I got about 5 hours before it hit 30%. Charging from 30% took about 5 hours to full with a 30W charger. So a little slow. But that could change depending on what you do with it.
Found a few bugs and reported them on Discord but no response yet. Nothing too major. Sleep mode does not work. Scrolling through multisample wav files when editing skips velocity layers. Note length in sampling is supposed to be in milliseconds but is in seconds. Asked for the ability to turn off charging when using USB with phone or tablets. It drains iPad pretty fast.
Just started using the loop track. Took a while to figure but itās good for triggering multiple loops. Each loop has its own sound settings and its own LFO and envelope.
The manual is good and laid out well. Recommend reading that to understand it more.
Juno UK had stock in, I got one. Was surprised.
Seems odd that it has four tracks and four audio outputs but can only route two tracks to audio 2 or 3. Audio 1 and headphones out have all tracks mixed together. Would be nice to have all four tracks separated on the four audio outputs to go into a mixer.
AFAIR HP Out is a mix of Outs 1,2&3, and you should be able to route any track to either 1, 2 or 3. Out 1 always includes internal reverb and delay send effects and Outs 2 and 3 are dry in this regard. This aspect is normally unchanged compared to BB1. To be confirmed though ā¦
Got one incoming. Will arrive on Monday and I will emerge from my hardware hermit phase to actually review this one.
Itās a really durable feeling bit of hardware. Not rattly feeling at all and button presses and knob twists are nice. I feel positive towards the build quality.
Not able to play it yet but it is roughly the size of a Kitkat chunky ![]()
very interested to hear how the BB2 shapes up against this critique of the Bento UI.
Thanks for quoting me here, Iād love to also know how peopleās experiences have been with the BB2, especially its workflow and UI. I should add to my post that the Bento IS a capable sampler / looper no doubt, reading back what I wrote there, I feel that point fell a bit short. All other points still hold from my pov.
Would love to have this to multisample stuffā¦hoping I can have some multisampled instruments on 2-3 of the channels and trigger those from my Nerdseq. Using my MV-1 for normal sounds other than eurorack but would like more sounds I hear out and about and if I can multisample with this and use them on 2-3 tracks at one time, that would be best.
What I like about the BB2, compared to BB1, is the portability (perfect form factor!) and the USB C port (finally away with the fragile USB A/B). Button tactility was better on the BB1 imo, while knob tactility is roughly equivalent. Device size is practically the same, BB2 feeling smaller.
Software wise, BB2 and Bento have not yet reached their potential yet. Personally, Iād appreciate:
- a bug-free Lead/Count In for recording loops,
- a numbered input level feedback, beyond green & red bars,
- and better recording start/stop feedback, more specifically a synchronised bar:beat count on the recording pad vs clock display.
And, an on/off button ![]()
Yay! @circuitghost is back!
