0-coast or Analog Four?

Hi!

I know this is an impossible question but I am interested in your opinions. My current setup is a Digitakt, a Roland JD-XA and some Ipad soft synths (Moog Model 15, Animoog and Ripplemaker). I really enjoy experimenting with the analog side of the JD-XA, sequenced by the Digitakt, but I would like to move to more experimental electronic sound exploration. I have watched numerous Youtube videos presenting the 0-coast and it seems very exciting. However, I realise that for about the same price I can get an pre-owned Analog Four… The Analog Four also seems very exciting, but will it kill my GAS for the experimental 0-coast  ?

I can’t help you much on this one : for me, A4 + 0-Coast is a fabulous pair.
But if I had to chose, I’d say 0-Coast + Keystep…

Analog 4 is four mono synths in one box, with fx, and a sequencer, and audio in and can control other cv equipment.

With overbridge as well, it’s a bit of a sound designers dream.

Personally I’d buy the a4 now and save for the 0 Coast. Then you can control the 0 Coast with the a4, and use its fx.

And I’d go for the A4 eight days a week.

But tastes and needs differ.

Or Namm 2018 Elektron Digisynth ?
I chose A4 with OT without any regret, and O’Coast seems a really good companion for it indeed.

It’s a great pairing but if I had to choose I would go with the 0-Coast. You can sequence it from the Digitakt (and over a wider note range than from the A4’s CV). I love how it feels like a wild organic unorthodox instrument. The A4 is great box but ultimately less inspiring to me.

A4 for sure!
much more features to experiment with.
much more powerful

Hard to find an answer, because both synths are based on very different sound creation concepts and thus generate very different tones.

The A4 synth engine is subtractive with two filters per voice. The O-Cost follows a typical west-coast idea of generating tones by adding harmonics. Both give us many options, are very flexible, and support experimenting, but in two totally different directions.

My suggestion is, to do more research to understand the differences better and then decide, which instrument fits better to your music, sound-ideas, and workflow.

they are both awesome and a great combo.
I love the sound of the 0 coast, and I prefer its basic tone… and there are some exciting routing possibilities not available on the A4.
But the A4. 4 mono synths, or poly, with an awesome sequencer, fx and more modulation possibilities.
No comparison imo
The price of used mk1s are a joke. and an amazing bargain.

i’d got with A4.
youve got ripplemaker which could fill your gas on getting an o-coast.
plus you can use fx and loads more things within the ipad.
I think a4 would get wider palette of sounds and you’ll still get blips/0-coast style sounds from Ripplemaker

I’d also say that i’d Suggest other multitimbral modules with fx , eg nord 4Rack .
Possibly Novation peak also , it sounds nice , perhaps Roland s8 which can have nice sounds with keyboard split.

Having had an A4 first then an MS20 and Mother 32 and starting to explore using the A4 CV to control those Id say A4 first…

that doesn’t work
