Rytm: Mounting Holes

I’ve had a few customers complain that the screws I supply with my acrylic stands won’t screw into the Rytm. The screws I use are the same ones that I’ve been supplying for nearly two years without any reported problems and are the same specification (M3) that is stated by Elektron.

It would seem that the screw threads in the Rytm have been painted over in the manufacturing process.

Are there any Rytm owners in the UK that would like to help test a few things?

There might be something in it for you. Drop me a line at info@marmotaudio.co.uk

yeah I found that out day one when the AR arrived. if you have the desire, tapping is possible.

yep, same here :expressionless: … i guess that’s all part of being an early adopter and even so, i’m pretty much ok with that, sounds seem to come out from the box

Confirmed here. I was able to get the screws in with some assertive screwing. One thing I’m worried about is taking the stands on and off for transport/gigs. Time will tell I guess.

I actually had one of the threads snap off as i was putting a screw in.

Same screws ive used for all of my other elektrons without issue. Was inserting and felt a bit of tension just over half way in but nothing i thought was over the top. I applied a bit more pressure and the thread broke loose. It was quite a pain in the ass to get the screw out and the AR out of the stand, but with 2 hands and 3 tools i was able to do so without opening the case.

Now i have a broken thread rolling around in the AR and its making me a tad nervous. Waiting on a response from the LA office.

Word of advice, if you think you are feeling more tension than you should, ease off.

if you use a long screwdriver you will start to see the shaft torque quick and that’s when you stop. or add a lock washer…which you toss every two or three uses

Confirmed. I tried using the same Elektron rack kit that I have used successfully with my OT and MD, and the screws don’t fit in the AR. I didn’t attempt to force them because I didn’t want to tear up the threading.

I have a first batch AR and have no issues taking it in and out of a 2-tier stand a few times. The screws have Allen wrench heads though and I use a small tool to hand tighten so I can’t apply much torque anyway. I have used the same screws with my OT and A4.

I had issues using the same screws I have in all 4 of my other Elektrons. I’m not sure if they are the same ones the OP uses, but it was a big issue. Not happy about it, but whatever… hopefully this thread leads me to the correct screws for this machine.

Oh! It seems more widespread than I thought.

I have a volunteer to test a few different screw types for me. I’m not really sure how scientific a test it will be as essentially they’re all the same screw thread, just different heads.

I report back with any useful results.

yikes, i got an AR on the way and already ordered a company of quail stand to mount my A4 in there too. fingers crossed

When threading the screws turn a 1/2 turn then back off a 1/4 turn continue doing this until it is tightened … Why do this? It helps clean out the threads…

They are the standard screw they are metric 3s or M3 the problem is the paint. look at an older device and you with see a clean view of the metal this is not what you see on a new AR. IF you attempt to use other size screw you are more apt to damage the threads. the correct answer is the tap the hole with a 3m tap, do a 1/2 turn 1/4 turn, as cosmosuave mentions, which is a form of tapping, or send it to Elektron to have them clear it.

Just tried to screw a random m3 screw yesterday in my AR, no problems here. I bought a new device less than a month ago and the dealer claimed that this item was from a new batch that has been built by Elektron not long ago. I clearly noticed a thread in the hole over the black paint and all the screws goes in the holes without any problems. So looks like this is not an issue for the newer devices.

I had this same issue with my A4 (one year old) - no M3 could be screwed in.

I found 4 screws (from my random box) that were 100% similar to the screws Elektron is using to assemble the unit. Those worked. So there’s some difference…

Yesterday I mounted my AR to desktop stand and it didn’t seem to have this problem…

Hi. Can anyone help? I recently bought some oak end cheeks for the RYTM and the screws just don’t fit into the device. I have the same screws for the A4 and they fit fine so I’m quite confused. Any help?

Strange, i bought the same screws for both
It can be that there is Some paint in there, but to advice you to force… ( i dont want to do that because i dont want you go ruine your machine

They’re supposed to me M3 for all machines. Probably dirt in the hole. Or the thread might be damaged.

better still … this one > yhbw

mine were a bit tough to screw in too. i think its because of paint in the threads. i carefully screwed the screw in like a half turn and backed it out and cleaned off the paint. do that a few times and you should be fine
