“Haptic Clouds” was written entirely on the Elektron Digitone as an experiment exploring the instrument’s capabilities. Without MIDI interfaces or external sequencing, I focused on the Digitone’s potential, and embraced its limitations. The Digitone is a beautiful instrument, full of flexibility, and power. The instrument has its own unique workflow, and very specific limitations. Working within that framework, and those limitations unlocks a well of creativity.
I’m leaning into DAWless, and so far Digitone is my only instrument, along with a very old sound module (Proteus 2000), and a KeyStep Pro. This is exactly the kind of thing I want to hear.
Can you say any more about your process from composition to mastering?
Thanks so much for listening! Glad you are enjoying the work.
If you are going DAWless, Elektron is definitely a great way to go.
As for my process, I wanted to see what I could do with just the Digitone. So, I didn’t use anything else, not even a keyboard controller. I spent about a month or so just designing sounds on the Digitone. Then I took all the sounds I designed and spent the next few months hand crafting tracks.
I arranged everything in song mode. When I was finished, I played the tracks in song mode and recorded them into my computer. Then I did send to a mastering house to get the album mastered. And they did a great job.
I learned a ton about the Digitone and had a great time making the album.
Hi all, I designed some presets for the Digitone II. They come with the machine. I did a little video today going through some of the presets. They are pretty abstract/textural. Many of them were used on Haptic Clouds, I just modified them for the Digitone II.
