I’m really close to pull the trigger on this one, tho.
Just can’t verify that you can record on one track, stop the recording, and keep recording on the same track after the initial recording.
The 4 tracks, the format, the tuner and metronome are just what I need.
And that’s really all I need to do. Not even syncing anymore - I can take care of that in Logic if BPMs were set correctly beforehand.
And that price point makes it easier to go all in.
I sold my op1f to, long story short, finance a bigger iPad for teaching purposes. But the extra money could be put on a R4, should it make the cut.
I’ve read many reviews. Some were criticising the preamps, the build quality and the overall limitations. But the price point is so great that I can do with limitations. Noisy preamps, not so much - even tho I still can RX10 the hums out of it. Yep. used RX10 as a verb. I do that now.
Anyways - thanks for the input. Really appreciated.
Just a quick update, I got a Zoom R4 a couple of weeks ago, and am loving it. Its just what I needed to quickly and seamlessly record my “jams” or random ideas without much fuss. Dig the bounce feature, too.
Hello. Just got a Zoom R4 today, and I noticed that my audio gets cut off whenever I rotate or push in deeper the male 1/4" jack that’s connected to either Input A or B. I just want to check if this is normal. I have 2 connectors (1/4"), and it seems to happen easily with one connector than the other, but it does happen on both. Does this happen on yours? I’m not sure if I should return my unit. Thanks!
Thanks for helping to check your unit. Mine still cuts off when I rotate or push on the jack, but I do get stable audio if I leave the connector alone. I’ll see if it gets worst, if it does, I’ll get in touch with Zoom. Thanks, again.
I’m all over this. Believe you me, it was not unnoticed!
But thanks for pointing it out.
Doesn’t cover everything…but it’s gonna be hitting some sweet (DAWless) spots!
Hi there, I am totally disappointed of Zoom R4. Why? I bought on last year. The recording qualiy is very good but after 4 month the left channel started to make strange noices by its own. I returned it to musicstore and after 4 weeks they send me a new R4 because mine could not be repaired. I used the new one for about 2 month and the same happened to the right channel. Again I send it back. I did not want to have it replaced with another R4 because it is not relyable. Just now I cant record anything and dont now what to buy. I dont dare to buy zoom products anymore
Such a great device. If the following could be changed in a firmware update no other product out there could touch it for song sketching. In order of importance:
Preview of audio files before selecting them for import to a track.
Rhythm track can play imported loop files instead of onboard drums.
Effects user presets that can be saved and named
Simple drum machine with user samples like on the R8.
Lastly, for the next hardware iteration, a small speaker like on some of the other Zoom recorders.
