H5 does 24bit 96k wav, what sort of quality were you needing?
The Sony PCM-D100 is a different animal at a higher price range.
It’s also because my focus is on field/foley stage recording.
Have you tried it in audio interface mode yet? I’m also curious about the Loop Back function which should allow you to stream audio from Mac to Octatrack.[/quote]
old thread but I’ve been testing the audio interface mode…
…it seems to be a bit spotty when plugging directly into the iPhone or iPad…sometimes it complains that the device being plugged in uses too much power
The H5 actually has an option in Audio Interface for iPad but apparently they overlooked turning off ‘power’ on the USB port in that mode.
Otherwise, it captures great in audio interface mode…
I’m testing a theory on doing things in a certain order and so far so good…power on the H5, set to Audio Interface (iPad), have the USB and Adapter plugged into H5 (but not iOS device), then have the iOS device on and plug the cable in, open camera app and hopefully you don’t see any power warnings…it will give that warning when first plugging in so you will know.
straight capture into iOS device w/H5 as audio interface in video below:
One way to resolve any “this devices requires too much power” warnings is simply to add a powered USB hub in between your iPhone or iPad and the USB device you’re using.
good idea! I will end up doing that at some point, tests were just plugging straight in
