I watched the excellent Knobs overview of the OT2. It’s a great video and very different to typical OT stuff. Worth a watch.
What I did notice was the audio didn’t sound as ‘clicky’ as the OT1. Is that a placebo effect, or is the OT2 better in that regard? (The digitakt can also be similar… )
Can anyone speak to this more? Any improvements or still the same?
To be honest, I’ve learned to work around the clicks by sampling in mono anything I’m going to go a little crazy with. This works the majority of the time.
If you need one of them side by side comparisons to tell the difference, I’m not sure it’s all that significant.
I’m gonna take my mate’s OTMKII for a spin in a few days and just sample the hell out of it, like I used to when I had one. If there’s a difference that counts for me, I’ll notice. If I don’t notice, it doesn’t count.
I still feel the Digitakt is stronger in the raw dynamics department. Stuff just sounds better, falls more into their right place, in the Digitakt.
Cannot say about the clincking right now but based on my memories from yesterday, the factory content felt like it sounded the same as in the mk I. Have yet to abuse the new input section though.
So the output section still sounds like an octatrack, whatever that means…
I think if the mk2 had enhanced processing abilities to reduce clicks and whatnot, it would be advertised as an improvement, like “new improved sample processing” or something…
I bet the dsp is identicle, it’s just the physical components of the in/out(yes the outs are 7dBu hotter with 2dB more S/N) that were modified for slightly better overall sound…
