Until I choose new small monitors yeah and i do prefer headphones to be honest. Need a small set of monitors for this room

What do you recommend?
I have a pair of Hifiman Aryas which I am very happy with, I have applied some light EQ with my RME DAC. These I use in my studio, whenever my partner is reading (almost always that is), however for more mobile applications I have some cheap crinacle IEMs that were recommended on here which are ok, but I often find my mixes on these are bass heavy.

Hifiman are good, and if you are happy and get exact sound use them. Over time you’ll learn them by heart and know exactly what are you doing. i use Audeze lcdX with sonarworks to fix some stuff, make them a bit flatter. I also have rme, adi-2, with a bit of crossfeed, and it works good.
There was no judgment in my comment. I will get there very soon, I’m moving from a house to an apartment.

I know you weren’t judging, i just find them probably my most important tool when music making. I see here allot of people invest in new synths, mixers and other stuff, but keep forgetting that you should hear the sound coming out of your instruments accurately.

Yes, the Arya are revealing enough to cause consternation about the various noise floor, filter distortion and crackles that I was blissfully unaware of previously. It’s cuts both ways.

I stopped being mad about how many cables ive bought (500+ easily) cause now i always have what is needed for whatever i want to plug in or route wherever it needs to go… feels good. You gotta keep buying them till you dont need to.

While you didn’t ask for recommendations, I’m going to give you one anyway - I got IK Multimedia iLoud Micros for my similarly small space and am very happy with them. I mounted them on the walls to keep them out the way. I do still use headphones a lot, for the fine details of the mix, and also not waking up the kids. I always consider getting wireless ones so that I can move between instruments without feeling tethered, but I keep hearing inconsistent things about the quality.
I used to have larger KRK Rokits but I found them a bit too boomy (if you’ll excuse the highly technical language) in that space, presumably because they have rear woofer ports, but I couldn’t place them far enough away from the walls. iLoud Micros have no rear ports.

I owned the Ilouds and while they’re really good for the price, they still have quite a deformed bass. I didnt find them neutral enough and am going to try out a pair of small ADAM Audio D3V.
