I broke up the band recently (sold off Analog Four and Digitakt) but thinking of starting anew with Syntakt and Digitone. i don’t think I was utilizing it fully but yeah, I was very pleased with how it looked… Digitakt was fantastic for being the sequencing brain of everything.
I would love to share a picture of my setup, but I’m too busy rearranging it 3 times a day to stop and take a picture.
I know what you mean. I bought one (one!) very small item last week (Streichfett), but it was too much for a studio already creaking under its own weight. I’ve spent every day since swapping the same few items around the same few places trying to find an arrangement that facilitates the new piece without destroying what little ergonomics I had…
Admittedly I don’t like to have all my gear out and connected. I used to but find I create better with just a couple devices at a time. I made things a lot better over the past few months by doing two things - first I created a main desk with DAW, monitor, audio interface, and DigiKeys as my midi keyboard. That setup is 99% permanent only occasionally moving the DTKeys to…
… a second table I use to make temporary setups with other combos of gear that acts as a creative break area/dawless area when I need a switch. The DAW desk has some space to add in an extra groove box or small synth or two. The Dawless desk has the Akai Force and Digitakt battling for main brain and extra space for a few more pieces that can more easily be swapped out. I have most everything mounted on vesa arms or laptop stands for better ergo’s.
There remains the ceiling.
Finding myself way more productive with less gear. Sold off all the hardware I hadn’t used in a while. Using the MPC Live to sample from hardware and Ableton, sprinkle in some Digitakt and the Analog Heat.
Contemplating going all-in on a high-end analog drum machine… maybe jomox Alpha Base? But they’re so expensive.
I’ve had the same problem. Too much gear, too much cables, too much troubleshooting, too much fixed installation, too much to walk, too much ideas, too much of everything.
Reducedment supports creativity.
Gear variation inspires.
Just to share how this all works:
OT is the sequencer so
MIDI OUT - Kenton thru 5
To MODOR, pulsar, heat and P10.
These all output to the ssl 6, with a WET Rev on AUX 1, and a send to OT IN AB on AUX2 so I can sample any of them.
I also have a pedal board with a bass and electric guitar going into channels on infinity looper and each of those go through a few pedals and into OT IN CD.
Lock the door, hit record.
What’s your opinion about the DR2 and/or the DR2 VS AB? ^^
Love the mac mini / ps5 combo, what monitor are you running there ? sweet setup.
They complement eachother. Two diffrent beasts that are fun and sounds great in their own way.
Yeah the monitor is ace, I now have ruined eye sight like but still, worth it.
This is the bad boy: https://www.lg.com/uk/business/monitor-products/lg-43un700
I approve of this setup.
I typically don’t have my entire rig out and plugged in - my wife does not approve of free-range “Bleep-bloop boxes” cluttering up our living space.
I use it to make stuff like this:
This was done in one pass, printed as a single stereo recording of the live mix off the Mackie mixer. Literally just messing around and recording the result, not intending to showcase my talent or, more accurately, lack thereof, lol.
Really great track. I feel like your setup is a great mix of solid foundation sounds and boxes that provide an added layer of ‘experimenting fun’ type of boxes.
Hey, thanks man.
I don’t really think of it as a track, more just a loop jam - glad you enjoyed it!
And yeah - I agree with your assessment of solid foundation/fun factor. There used to be a lot more gear in the pile when I ran a recording studio years ago; it’s been trimmed down pretty substantially.

Well loved too!
I’ve had it for almost 20 years now. Bought it from Rogue Music in NYC for $800 way back when and ate instant noodles for a month so I could afford it.
Crazy to see what the prices have gotten to now.
