Your modulars (Part 2)

It seems like MN’s preferred term in the video is multichannel, not polyphonic. Mixing voltages seems equally important, if not more so, than just playing more tones.

I don’t think these west coast-style voices work very well for polyphony, so I’d be surprised if they went that way.

Multimod has a creative way of multing out the incoming signal by changing read shape (color), compared to what I see in Polimaths, and Multimod is not limited to only triggering at the input as it can process audio too. You could potentially get Multimod to do some things Polimaths could, if using Multimod like an envelope out, but both do much more that doesn’t overlap.

Not sure if that helps, especially as Polimaths is a prototype.

I can say I am most excited the option to skip over outputs and use it rhythmically. I started as a drummer, so I think I’ll always gravitate back to that.

And the 2nd part? I am wondering the same. I can’t help consider some people who do performative art installations might really appreciate the direction.

I was thinking less polyphony and more multiple operations/signals while using less modules in a small space. Still many of the latest MN videos since introducing Multimod, and more recently with Jumbler have featured multiple simultaneous voicings.

There’s apparently a video with Walker talking about using Polimaths specifically for polyphonic patching but it went private soon after it was uploaded like a lot of SB videos seem to have (I didn’t see it, only what people said about it), so it might be both.

I’d also suggest that polyphonic West Coast is increasingly becoming a thing, look at Magnolia for example. I don’t have enough experience with such a setup to know if I’d like it or not, but it does seem to be coming into vogue.

I haven’t used Multimod in person yet so I fully accept I may be under appreciating its capabilities and differences from this.

Hey, there’s also individual use cases too. Maybe you would only use one over the other? I’m excited (obviously - sorry!) because I’ve limited my future Eurorack adventures to only Make Noise and here it is growing faster than I can move to a bigger case! :grimacing:

I think the biggest thing on Multimod is those read/write modes.

Polimaths, I think is more like having its own Jumbler built in at the bottom. Even the scan knob works similar to Radiate.

Totally get it, my case is limited to AJH and MN and I’m trying to limit too much growth for a while! I think I’m just not into tons and tons of modulation the way some people are, I can’t even imagine a use for 16 lanes of modulation in my small case. But I’ve been trying to avoid the videos because I don’t have room anyway

Not as focused on polyphonic patching as comments led me to believe but he does mention using it for that near the end of the video, around 10:40 to 10:50. And he seems to be talking around some aspects, even mentioning he can’t bring up certain things it does. Certainly leaves room for speculation.

That looks fantastic:

Yeah looks incredible… this is basically what I’ve been wishing make noise would do with a desktop morphagene in a 0-coast case…

Damn. Full plate for the next several months so not doing the pre-purchase, but I’d love to play one of these.

I love the touch options that make it very real-time playable. The contact mic include is a great addition.

It’s not cheap, but comparable to what’s available, it’s relatively cheap.

Oh well. I’ll look at the October release.

Latest configuration of my ADDAC monster case. Happy enough with the case but a decision was made in the design (or maybe the assembly of my particular case) that leaves me dumbfounded… and that is that instead of just buying in and fitting threaded rails of the exact 197hp (which are available) they made up the hp by installing several lengths of cut rail - and inevitably that has caused spacing issues for some modules that span the cut lengths. Bit frustrating but I’m able to cope!

Well, it certainly looks very impressiv… :sunglasses:

Sonic State did a video from Superbooth 2025 with Seb. Skip ahead to six minutes in for the demo. That helped me understand how the Cen2rion could be used in a real setup.

I upgraded my mixing capabilities a bit. Im working on patching this case for a few live sets this month.

made a simple case with my dad this weekend for the tiptop audio happy ending kit. expanding the ds-2 with some DIY modules from AI Synthesis, got the third one coming in tomorrow along with a power cable for the ds-2. excited to start this path by learning about circuits!

Current rig, just missing the XP32 (atm).

What’s your verdict on the Hermod+?

I really love the fastener for the 3U Bruteracks. Great way to extend the space. Same goes for the NTS2.

It’s the backbone of my modular.

-Clear and logical GUI
-Live quantization of incoming midi notes or cv gates.
-Use of harmoniser/scaler on incoming cv pitchs.
-Ableton master clock/reset relay, for all my modules
(The sync in USB is very good compared to others midi interfaces,
making my Mutant Brain useless.).

Won’t even discuss the tons of sequencing/modulating tools, but the only downside is when you realize that you need to spend time designing a few templates (similar to an Octatrak) before going “on air”.
