Your modulars (Part 1)

Never had a problem with mine, pretty much always clock follower in my system - been permanently clocked by keystep pro in my set up for months with no problems. It can’t handle a modulating clock in my experience, but if that’s not your thing shouldn’t be a problem

Thanks, that’s all I need

Just re-read your post, and just to clarify mine’s always clocked via analog clock - have never tried clocking it with MIDI.

It is possible I’m not understanding, but the assimil8or on off state is what’s confusing me. Why would I need to do that through a VCA instead of just having triggers come from FH2 into assimil8or being controlled by a hapax drum track? At that point wouldn’t on off be inputting steps or deactivating steps in a drum track and variation or different states simply be different patterns?

That was just a simple example to get the idea across, I didn’t mean anything in particular about it. I’m using the VCAs to turn signals that aren’t coming from Hapax on and off or modulate them. So maybe I’ve got some modulation going through some VCAs, or a send to an effect going through another. Those are the things that I want to dynamically intercept, the same way that I can with any sequencer data on the Hapax itself by playing it.

Of course in the Assimil8or-like case if there is some preferred sequencer/sequencing method inside your case that doesn’t already have an easy/ergonomic way to turn its channels on and off (in my situation this = IO Labs Flux) this means I can control which triggers are getting through to which channels from the Hapax still. This is more powerful when you’re using utilities to generate sequences because the VCAs can both stop a module from receiving triggers entirely, and (depending how you’ve patched it) act as macro controls to the generative patch by, for eg., removing or adding triggers from the process that is creating your trigger stream. This is the more likely use case for Assimil8or, since you can directly CV control the level of channels on that module, but the general idea applies to any module that produces events from triggers.

And btw, this is not particularly unique to the Hapax, and a lot of this is just Using VCAs 101, but it is extremely convenient to be able to control all of this from one place by clip launching, and have those patterns be able to be selected independently of the things (eg. pitch) I’m directly sequencing on Hapax. It makes Hapax a macro sequencer for all my other sequencers.

I clock mine via MiDI from Logic or Octatrack via an Intellijel MIDI 1U and it’s super tight and consistent. I’ve also clocked via analog from other modules and never had a problem. I’d feel naked without Pam.

i’m looking for a liquid type filter my my acid rain chainsaw, any recommendations? Any views on this one? 6hp would be perfect but can stretch to 8hp if need be.

Thanks

Thanks for the info - I had indeed already considered you might mean that. I could always clock it with my FH-2 (that gets clocked via midi by my Elektrons). Thanks

So good to hear. Everyone always says it’s thé module to have, but for some reason I had imprinted this clock pickiness in my mind. Good to know

Makes sense. I’m gonna explore that on my hapax for sure

is there a way to record, edit and use CVs? poking around the net, asking the wrong questions. does anyone have any ideas/solutions?

the main bit is editing the CV loops to taste so I can use em later

ES-8 inputs are DC coupled…but can that be recorded to say, Logic and then saved out at the same voltage levels? having difficulty finding answers

Squid Salmple and Assimil8or can both sample CV - not sure what the editing capabilities are on Salmple, but you can do a fair bit on Assimil8or with re-pitching, phase modulation and setting loop windows. If you have a DC coupled interface you can just record CV into a DAW and do really fine grained editing there and shoot it back out again - just don’t monitor the track with the CV recording on it!

ya the ES-8 is DC in/out. I just didnt know if the CV integrity would hold up after being recorded into DAW. I also just wondering about “breaking” something somewhere while doing that.

I have one of these, works quite well. Reducing the bit rate of the recording makes for interesting results.

That looks interesting. Too bad I’m broke AF and on NGNY.

But I’ve put that I’m my modgrid as a reminder. I’d love to give that a shot one day.

I wonder if something like that could be built in MAX. It’s unfortunate that I’m shit with MAX

Some weeks ago I reported here, that my 2nd hand Verbos Amp & Tone that I´ve got from ebay, had some crackling on the resonance knob.

So I contacted Verbos 2 weeks ago. I send the A&T over to them and they repaired it on the same day. My experience is, the customer support is great and the process was smooth and fast. I payed fixed fee of 30 EUR + shipping.

And in the meantime I found a new friend for Zadar and got a Bark Filter. Chrismas was very early this year

Verbos Complex Oscillator + Amp & Tone + Bark Filter + good mod source … for me it´s THAT sound with its saturation and distortion that reminds me instant to (old) techno sounds / tracks I love. So thanks again @tumulishroomaroom for pointing me toward it.

Its lush - highly recommend. I have that and the Ona oscillator. Really well made, really good value. Great company
