I tried one of those, but the blue switches didn’t make it sound more blue and the orange ones didn’t make it sound more orange.

But was the sound woody?

Subsequent 37 for me as well. I ended up getting one after hearing some guy at a small bar play a show with one. He slowly opened up the filter on a long saw bass note and I had what I can only describe as an out of body experience.

It was also the first date with my now wife. Not sure if she remembers but I had to tell her to hold on and stop talking as I slowly walked closer to the speaker in awe.

This would be a better choice to not be distracted by colors and wood

Lifelong sucker for a Juno 106 here. I also liked Grandmother while I had it. Same for Behringer Poly D. Not many are fans of that one, but I found it very simple to get something good going, like the other two I mentioned.

I thought about the bass station but every time I’ve owned one I’ve eventually sold it because of what isn’t WYSIWYG about it: all the shift functions (some now not even labeled on the panel).

Roland SH-09 anyone?

Yeah. I got one (BSII) used cheap and ‘thought’ I’d use it more than I do.
And when I do, as someone said: ignore OSC2, etc…
Then it’s WYSIWYG mostly. But then you’re missing half of it.

When I’m in ‘that’ mood, I reach for the DB-01, which is even simpler, but it just sounds so good I don’t care. In fact, sometimes when I’m in that mood I reach for monologue.

I’m curious- what the difference is so that people would use “WYSIWYG” over “one knob per function”.

What you see is what you get.

If knobs/sliders share functions, then its not the above is it?

In the case of BS2, which I did own, the state of the sliders did not reflect the shape of the envelope, depending on which one you weren’t editing. Very confusing.

In the case of SH101, which I also own, or MS20 then yeah, what you see, is what you get.

Simples.

I miss my grandmother. Perhaps I’ll get another someday. It probably is my favourite.

I replaced it with a SE Boomstar SEM. I wanted something more compact. It can sound really great, but can’t get quite as wild as the GM.

I think to truly be WYSIWYG, that means no presets. You can have knob per function, but when you change presets, it is no longer WYSIWYG

…unless you have one LED-collar-knob per function.

This should be required on all instruments, in every planet of the galaxy.

From those I have: Moog Grandmother
From those I have tried: Roland SH-5 equal with the classic Minimoog
