Aside from the case material, this thing is really good. I’ve had the op-z before so it feels intuitive to me. No issues with the buttons. Love the pot features, being able to input & move between ‘clips’
It’s cooled my desire for an xy.

I know people say it’s a Drum and Bass box, but IMO this is the best bread & butter synth of all time. The sequencer is cool, but I now sequence it from my Oxi and use the iPad to select and modify the sounds.
I’ve used it iPad-free too, just on the go. All you need is their two 30 min tutorials and then just kinda hunt around and mess with it until it clicks.
Tip: Fits in the Roland boutique line soft case.
Tip #2: Back up regularly. Don’t overwrite over previous backups.
Tip #3: Any synth or sound device that’s USB-powered may require a USB isolator. Another option is to run from a power bank when recording.

Having 9 tracks of full 8-element AWM2 synth engine accessible via sysex editors for sound design, with those edited sounds being saveable as favorites in the normal way, makes this thing gold for its size imo.

In case anyone missed it, firmware 2.0 introduces the drum kit track type and gives you the ability to convert any drum track into an AWM synth.

Forgive my ignorance, but what type of sounds does AWM2 excel at?
AWM2 is basic sample-based rompler type sounds though you could certainly use it as quasi-virtual analog. Good to have around.

Bread and butter stuff. Just think of it as a really nice supermarket synth. Several Refaces into one.

It can do pretty much anything as there are 2000+ oscillator waveforms/other samples, 18 filter types (including a nice enough analog model), and LFO (into audio rate, up to ~1.3kHz) plus multiple envelopes - along with different ways to use those 8 elements like layering, key/velocity ranges, round robin etc. Here’s a pic of the parameters in a single element, and the filter types (from kdx editor) :

Did any of the refaces give access to the entire AWM2 engine?
Has anyone found a way to loop user samples in the AWM2 engine?

The only Yamaha Reface which uses AWM2 engine is the CP (here are the specs for all of them):
And the CP isn’t able to change parameters of it, just use the included effects, that’s all.
The YC uses AWM engine for organ drawbar style harmonics combinations, not much as well.

No small form contemporary AWM2 devices known, only Yamaha MODX class keyboards.

seqtrak isn’t using the embedded loop-points in my samples - I’m thinking the app is stripping out that data when it sends it over to the device itself.
Thanks for that. I was wondering if there are any other small/cheap devices have full AWM2 in them as that is a massive plus for the utility of this to me…

I have a QY-70, but I meant current.
I investigated the issue.
I was not able to find a way to import a looped sample into a SYNTH TRACK.
Importing a looped sample into a SAMPLE TRACK is easy, but there is no easy way to play that sample polyphonically OR chromatically with the integrated keys or via MIDI.
So for now looping waveforms in SYNTH tracks is reserved for preset waves, and not user waves, unless someone can demonstrate otherwise.

Could anyone tell me about the polyrhythm / polymeter capabilites of the seqtrak?
AFAIK it’s possible to set different lengths of patterns for each track. The manual also states something about pattern quantisation which I don’t fully Understand.
I wonder what happens if you play patterns of different lengths - do they just continue looping or is there any point in time where they resync similar to Elektron Boxes?

they just continuously loop as per their track length settings - no reset that I can see. Launch quantize is when the pattern will actually start playing after it has been selected by either track knob press and turn or track knob hold+step button (vs immediate start with just track knob turn).
