I am busy with this x-fader transition trick
I play music with my Rytm
Rytm audio to OT
I record in a Flex machine
I have the right settings for my x fader
I can see the sample is recording, when I untrig I have the sample, when I don’t untrig the recorder trigger keeps on triggering the recorder.
All exactly like what I want.
But
The problem is, the recorded loop doesn’t start to loop after recording.
When I place a trigger (in the step sequencer), The recorder is triggered. So I will have a new recorded sample.
When I [function] + [edit], i place a 'trigs’on the first trig.
Why the loop doesn’t playback?
I just watched this tutorial
Octatrack Know-How — Lesson #4: Recorder Trig Sampling
i can capture the loop.
in the video, after recording, they press ‘rec’ (the red button, with ‘copy’ under it)
a sample track is placed. (time = 2:33)
in the video, you hear the loop
in my setup, I activate the recorder again, so a new loop is recorded.
What do I do wrong?
I don’t want to record a new loop,
I only want to hear the recorded loop!
are you familiar with recorder trig VS playback trig?
at 1:12 … they tell you it will be overdubbed if you keep it red and dont press STOP in time
make it yellow and it will only be recorded once (press fn 1:20)
at 1:40 you must AGAIN specify WHERE the source is from
have at least 16steps to record (just to be sure) 1:50
2:18 … place a play trig !
or listen to it beforehand with Track + Edit then FN + YES
i spent hours on this fucking piece of shit tutorial, then moved to the instant recording option when pressing the AB button …
seriously, this made me MAAAAD! … typical elektron style … still love them!
Thank you for your reaction.
I am not sure…
In the [function] + [edit] combination, I can place a trig on top, and a record trig on the botton. Is that what you mean? I know there is a difference, but when I only place a trig on the top one… it doesn’t start to loop.
When I press the red button (with copy under it), I assume I create a record trig. That’s why the sample is recorded again, in stead of only played.
When I press the red button (with copy under it), I can also create a trigger that triggers once [function]+ [trig]. So I don’t have to untrig the record trig again. It automatically stops recording at the end of the loop.
But only a ‘play trig’?
How can I create a ‘play trig’? Somewhere I am missing something…

push NO/EXIT.(many times if necessary)
You see the Playback page or some of the others? Yes…you press REC entering GRID Rec and there you place sample trigs or kind of its similar
i don’t understand your post.
if I press ‘No/Exit’ many times… record trigs changes to play trigs?
unfortunately my octatrack is in my studio, and I am back home… till this weekend.
after 3 days in the studio without making music, I start to go crazy.
Still the same problem. I can record a sample, but cannot just play the sample. after some suggestions, I think I should not place a recorder trig (I think this is what I do), but after recording I should only set a sample trig.
But how?
I read the manual and find on page 79. ’ Enter sample trig by just pressing [Trig] key. it is indicated by a ‘red’ LED.
On Page 87, I read about ‘track trig edit menu’ [function] + [bank] when grid recording mode is active. I think I should place a trigs trig, because this shows the sample trigs, trigless locks, trigless trigs and one shot trigs.
I think I should turn off the recorder trig after recording, or set a ‘one trig recorder trig’. This all works fine for me. I can even see the loop is recorded in the recorder, but I cannot play it back as a loop.
I can listen to the recorded loop by pressing [function] + [yes], to prelisten the sample.
I hope someone can help me. I feel like an idiot and I have been busy with this way too long.
might not be it, but have you assigned the flex machine to playback the flex recorder in the sample slot list?
uhh… i think I didn’t do this…
so the flex machine and the flex recorder are not the same?
I thought, a flex machine plays the recorded loop, after recording, and after triggering…
How? most of the words used cannot be found in the index of the manual.
also, my head starts to explode, so I go for a beer and be back in 5 min.
tnx for the reaction anyway!
it is not the same… you have 8 recorder buffers, one for each track… so you can record something on one track and play it on another, which is useful…
anyway…
say you are using track 1
you double tap the track 1 button
you go to flex and hit the arrow key right -> and then go up and select flex recording buffer 1.
then your playback trig will play the recorded sound that you have recorded with your record trig.
that sounds very useful. This sunday I will be back in the studio.
i will chck it out then. Thnx a lot… feels like i am almost there. i will post the result
Thank you all. I got it now. The final post of Elektrosatan helped me out, at the end. Yesterday I succeeded the Cascade, I really enjoyed making music with the combination of Rytm and OT. It is amazing and works very well.
One more thing:
It feels like the gain of the recorder is +12 (or more), but it is not set to 0dB. Because of this the recording sounds louder than the original input. Right now I compensate this with the level of the Flex Machine track. I think I will loose quality of the sound like this.
How can I set the input gain of the Flex recorder to 0?
Once I succeeded, but I have been searching for this a lot, and I cannot find it?
Or are there other ways to be sure the recorded loop has the same level (and quality) as the input audio?
