WTF - how is this making noise? No oscillator vol present

OK so decided to have a look at a few patches to reverse engineer them…. some e.g. SUBBEND have no oscillator volume

I’ve heard of self oscillating stuff - but literally been through every parameter and tweaked and can’t hear any difference - where are some of these patches making sound from?

Can someone shed some light how the people who made these patches did it?

A few drum / perch patches seem to do similar…

Thanks

High resonance filter sweeps.

dont have an a4 so i cant check those patches out

but getting a filter to self-oscillate is done through cranking up the resonance to maximum… then you can use cutoff to “tune” the oscillation (change the pitch)… you dont need any input, the response curve (resonance) of the filter itself is the amplifier, hence “self-oscillating”

if you want a resonating filter to follow keytracking set it to 32, but don’t set the resonance too high as it goes wild (good wild) - then adjust the filt freq to get the ‘oscillator’ in tune

wow - thanks - thats pretty crazy - never would have found that out myself!
