Just want to applaud Elektron for a second…
New owner of the Rytm. Watched the Cookoo video over the weekend and started to get to work. Loaded my 16 or 17 drum kit samples (70MB, ok have some more space i guess) and ready to go. Wow sounds amazing and workflow is the BEST. No more Maschine for me most likely. This thing is an instant classic. Was a little freaked out at first about the noise, but i found a good way to record and I have the feeling overbridge might help even more for a super tight clean sounding track if needed. Well its ANALOG.
You can just tell this is a highly engineering product of many years of experience from a company who has learned how to integrate man and machine so well. It so nice to see how a screen smaller than my old cellphone has everything I could possibly need. At first i was also surprised about the size of the pads, but being a drummer, i feel like i can connect with them well. I probably wont be doing any snare drum rolls or realistic acoustic drumming (save that for the Roland VDRUMS) but most importantly, I feel the pads capture my grooves and the ideas translate nicely.
I kinda like how there are no fancy GUIS and sometimes they make you work a little harder to get something done (sample management, etc) …but i think we are all spoiled in 2015 with highly software-ized music tools and it feels kinda good to get my hands on some real hardware. And sometimes makes you stop and think. Once you get accustomed, the workflow is quick and although I don’t have direct experience it feels like what would be to work on a MPC or SP1200 etc. When i turn a knob or goto a menu I feel like I am accessing the direct raw code of the machine, not some gui wrapped inside of a plugin inside of a DAW etc.
Nice work
