I detest FIFAs entire being but I was absolutely enthralled.

It was strange rooting for Argentina as my partner is Brazilian. But congrats to them, particularly Messi.

Just had the thought that every match after this will seem shit, same as how I can’t play any games after finishing Zelda botw

Can’t believe no one has mentioned Emi Martinez and his heroics…

The guy makes Grobbelaar look sensible.

I think Argentina deserved to win on the balance of play. You can’t turn up at the 70th minute (even if you’re Mbappe) and then expect to win it. I think Martinez is genuinely a cracking goalkeeper but I’m surprised they let him get away with all the mucking about and chucking the ball away etc. I thought they might send him off and then it might have been a different story with the “B” goalie.

That see through negligee Messi wore at the end was quite diverse. Bought my wife one of those 30 years ago.

I’m just unhappy it will take me probably 2.5 hours to get home from work Monday while the roads are flooded with people from all over the world who have no business risking their lives on an Atlanta highway. Then the police everywhere when some drunk guys stumble into vine city or the bluff near the stadium and don’t make their flights home.

I feel you. I know Atlanta traffic too well. Horrible on the best day. Get home safe.

Been enjoying the games so far, and the interactions between fans grom across the world ialways brings a smile to my face. Still waiting for the thundercunt strikes from outside the penalty box that we seem to get every World Cup. Oh and those hydration breaks (commercial breaks) are wank. Sure to be a whole lot more drama in the coming days.

I quit watching (and playing) football some time ago, but this time I’m interested in the new tech and new rules and watched the USA - Paraguay game.

Man, that was one of the best games I’ve seen in my life. Team USA played like Brasil in its glorious years. Even after leading 3:0 they continued playing with excellent football. Europeans would never do that. They would stand in their own half, move the ball back and forth, just to pass the time until the end.

Maybe this has also to do with the new rules, I don’t know. In any case, after that match team USA have become my favourites. Top quality football with very talented players. I also wish they win the tournament. Then the USA would have achieved something remarkeable and glorious for whole world to see, without the usual cheating and bullying.

Bollocks. Have you seen Spain or France play ever? Plus, Panama are shite so let’s see how USA do in the round of 32, if they even get that far

i just looked up the US team and it’s like 60-70% people that ICE would abduct. Most of them probably don’t support the evil the gov is up to. life is complicated. my only allegiance is to a better world. i hope mexico wins.

I don’t know what ICE is.

What I also like in this tournament is the Alan Parsons Project intro. The beginning of the “Eye in the Sky” LP. Albeit a simple intro it is powerful and mysterious.

Unrelated to the tournament, I often have issues with the TV live stream commentators. A remedy which works quite well is to feed the audio into a DAW with a stem separation plugin, cancelling the commentator’s voice. The result is not perfect, portions of the background sound are cancelled as well, fluctuating. Mapped to the Roto-Control, voice cancellation can be quickly switched on and off for segments where the commentaries are relevant.

I have to say, new tech has changed the entire TV football experience. To the better in my opinion.
