Has Elektron ever updated a disontinued device? Not that i know but i might be wrong.

Yes. Many, many times. The original AR Mark I was updated just months go.

If there is an update (which there may not be) I wouldn’t count on it being on the soon side. It makes economic sense to give those who are inclined to upgrade some time to act.

The change from mark 1 to mark 2 might be very different from DT1 to DT2. Time will tell if the omission of ‘mark’ this time has any significance.

It seems like it would make sense to drop an update in the next few months, great way to move all the remaining DT stock. I doubt there is much more that can be done but I have thought that before so who knows.

Elektron, expect many angry letters from Mark.

I know now with DT2 out there, there’s no sense to update the DTOG, but I’d like to see unless an adapted “kit functionality” from which we saw on DT2… That’s something I missed from the beginning I’ve bought, even more than song mode.

Yeah i hated that there was no kit function. I couldn’t believe it at first. Though after a while i learned to play entire sets with one pattern. So in the end it helped me to get better at improvising. But i still would love to see kits on the DTOG.

That’s insane. A no-brainer for anyone who wants a sampling powerhouse but doesn’t want to commit the cash to the new one. The DOG is still a beast and always will be even if it never gets another update.

My guess is probably there will be a fairly modest capstone update once the dust has settled on the launch, maybe alongside the first big update for the new one, but I don’t think there’s much that will be coming other than maybe euclidean trig mode, possibly tweaks to the machines, e.g. a bit more control over slicing - assuming this will come to the Digi2 sooner rather than later and probably wouldn’t be unfeasible for the DOG in terms of processing power.

Definitely going to sit tight and keep using my DOG until the Digi2 really starts to mature, for one thing I really don’t fancy doing another overbridge beta so will wait at a minimum wait until that’s stable. And also wait out the crazy sell off by early adopters until prices stabilise a bit, although FWIW €550 is the lowest I’ve seen on my local small ads and reverb here, which seems about right to me.

DT 1 is still excellent even without new update. It wont become bad in 2 days because something better came out. People made banger with it and nothing have changed. The 2nd hand price is now 350€. Unbeatable price/performance machine now.

A DOG is for life not just Christmas.

128 step upgrade would be nice, just make the led light go out for whichever pattern you’re on on the second set of 4

I’ll take kits please. Otherwise I’m good.

This would be great if implemented to the mkii’s and digitone as well

Does the DT2 have LFO slew?! I didn’t see that!

Note there’s no such thing as DT mark 1 and DT mark 2. It’s DT and DT2, which suggests (to me), Elektron’s taking another path from what they did with AR and A4.
AR mk1 and mk2 are different version of the same product.
DT and DT2 are two different products.
So I think the last massive update of DT was, indeed, the last update. It’s still an incredibly good instrument for it’s (second hand) price.

Interestingly enough, while the big ticket items draw attention, I am feeling twinges over the little things that seem possible even on the supposedly maxed out OG… like Last and /Last trig conditions, Boolean combinations of trig conditions, proper handling of PB/MW/AT/BC so I can set up macros on an external controller… still not worth several hundred dollars to me, though. I guess I just wait and hope.

What Bibenu said. And Cuckoo at the end of his Digitakt 2 tutorial/introduction. AR Mk1 and Mk2 share the same insides, Digitakt II on the inside is a whole different beast, based on a completely new programming platform. On the outside the look and feel is the same, but from what I understand there is no parity between those devices, besides backwards compatibility of project files. Long story short, the MK1/MK2 pattern of updates does not apply to the Digitakt.

Good points you made, fully understood. However, I was referring to two aspects:

  1. AR1 is a discontinued device, yet it still got updates recently. There are other examples as well. Some people were arguing that the “old” DT won’t get updated because it’s discontinued; doesn’t make sense because that’s not how Elektron operated historically.

  2. The AR2 and the DT are from around the same time, 2017-2018. If the both AR versions got the Euclidean update, so can the DT. I brought the AR2 up because that has more in common to the DT than the DT2. I fully understand there are huge differences in terms of guts between DT and DT2.

Mind you, there have been quite a few arguing for what to me sound like unlikely updates to the DT’s firmware. More filters! 128 steps! 3rd LFO — those all sound implausible to me. However, stuff like Euclidean and some interface loans from the DT2 I am sure are down the road. I mentioned these things in the beginning of the thread.
