Why transpose?

I gotta say, I had to google “masterful cat” and I think I’ll add it to my watch list  My avatar is actually from this set of pixel art works by Pixel, author of the Cave Story game: 100 Kitties (neko 100) - Cave Story Tribute Site (and it is interesting to listen for, thanks!)

I use transpose a lot with my eurorack vector sequencer because it only has limited pattern lengths and transpose gives a 16 step sequence more life.

This might be a semantic discussion and you are right in your way. From my perspective your are modulating by transposing your sequencer. So transposition can be used as a way to modulate.

When I started to learn guitar “by ear” I tried to jam along to Cheap Trick’s surrender. I was kinda proud I got it right for the first 2 parts. But then they changed the key in the last part of the song. Never noticed it before and totally got out of tune
Always wondered why they did it. It’s subtle, but I think it gave it a certain twist for the ending.

This one is kinda unique in the way that they use the modulation as part of the chorus but it works in context. You first hear it at 54 seconds into the song.

In this anime intro for kanpeki danshi aoyama kun it’s really blatant. They set it up but it’s done pretty abruptly which is why it was easy to remember. At around 58 seconds they head towards the new key and at 1 minute in they hit it. I’m impressed that the singer made that jump.

I could probably pull out a bunch of these but it’s not stuff that I would really listen to on a playlist so much as having heard it and remembered the transposition.

Just providing examples that are easy to hear for context on my previous comment.
