Didn’t say that. I said that, for some people involved in electronic music/synth hoarding, there are sometimes patterns of behavior (GAS, obsessive, compulsive behaviours, that sort of shit) that may share similarities with other patterns of behavior, like substance abuse.
Some find it easier to manage than others, often because of factors such as a history of abuse, PTSD, mental illness, all that shit. What’s easy for you might be a fucking mountain of pain for someone else, and they might have good reason. Either way, best not to judge, best to offer help, no?
Because being an adult is also about asking for help and advice if you’re struggling, like maybe going on an Internet forum full of helpful people who you know are dealing with/have dealt with similar shit. And maybe some of those people might be an adult and share some helpful advice or whatever.
On a somewhat self indulgent (but hopefully broadly on topic) tangent, here’s a thread of mine from the plague times talking about how I lost my mind in Eurorack land, because of somewhat similar issues to people dealing with substance abuse. Obviously much less of an issue and much easier to deal with, but definitely some overlap.
