Which elektron do you prefer?

Hi elektronauts i am just curious if you got more than one box wich is your favorite or use more?

i got MD,OT,MM,A4 and the MD its my chioce

its awesome to jam !!!

I’ve got the Monomachine, Octa, A4 and Rytm.
I think the one i like the most is the Monomachine.

How come you like MNM best?..If you don’t mind me asking

I have to agree on this one. I’ve only owned the Octatrack (beginning of 2012) and the Monomachine (since 2007), and the Monomachine is just so deep and has everything you need right there. While I loved the Octatrack, it required a lot of prep/grunt work to get everything in order.
The Monomachine has been driving my gear for almost 10 years, and I love it to pieces. I’m still learning new things with the Monomachine and know it in/out.
P.S. Sure, there’s no microtiming or different length tracks, but you can get around that by being creative etc. Less is more in my eyes…

In order of purchase: OT, MnM, A4. In addition to that, I have the Nord Drum 2, a few Strymons and an iPad.

The MnM is on its way out – I find both the OT and A4 more rewarding, ultimately.

I think what made me get rid of the MnM is that I try to be minimalist: I’d prefer to have a few good boxes I really click with. I really enjoy some of the sounds I can get out of the MnM, but I actually tend to like fairly simple sounds – think nice, tasty filtered saw waves. I always felt that for that sort of simplicity, the analog A4 is actually better.

I know already Im going to miss the vast possibilities, but I know myself and as soon as I have choice beyond that go beyond what I can grasp quickly, I’m basically signing away any chances of getting music made. I need to have stuff that enables me to quickly start thinking less in terms of programming, more in terms of composing.

I think the difference between the A4 and the MnM is that while they both can be deep when you get to programming them, the A4 feels more like an instrument – the MnM actually feels quite a bit like making music with an old-school tracker, as many have said before.

I think that with the OT and A4, I have a good capacity to get great-sounding stuff going quickly, but together they have that rabbit hole I can dive into, if I feel like it. The OT is the king of my setup – it’s the center.

I am thinking of getting an MD, though… Something about that one interests me quite a bit – not so much about the Rytm.

TL;DR: The OT is king, as much for sequencing as for sample mangling. A4 is a close second. I do love the MnM, but it’s not quite a perfect match for me. GASsing for MD.

Its the range of sounds i can get with the MonoMachine and the workflow in general. Its got personality , its very unique.(some really hate it others love it)
Its a very personal thing a guess.

The Octatrack is a Wonderfull piece of kit but less immediate.
The A4 is great but more limited i would say though the sequencer is more advanced than the Monomachine.
The Rytm … im just not sure yet. I think it need to mature a bit.

I think i agree with the mono after the MD but before OT and A4 the pallete of sounds and type of synths its excellent you can make alot of different stuff really a deep machine

My Octatrack is my desert-island piece of kit, no doubt.

I have a MNM, and a MD. The MNM is my favorite, just because it is so insanely flexible and usable in many many ways. It just draws you in and invites you to experiment.

MonoMachine and Analog Four. Haven’t had the MM for too long so I am still finding things out but I think I might be more blown away by it than the A4.
The A4 is gorgeous and I can produce alot that I immediately love the sound of - both minimal and insanely complex too… and that reverb is so damn lush for pads. At the moment I prefer making drum sounds on the A4 compared to the MM but then you can do some really nutty glitchy percussion stuff on the MM plocking bbox, the arp, filter and retrig settings. They compliment each other really well.

The MM just has a totally wacky personality - sometimes I don’t even like what I am hearing but then it flips me and I start appreciating it so much more. It has the possibility to take me in directions I might not normally choose and that is a great thing with any instrument. I’ve had the same kind of thing with guitars. For me the best guitars fight back and I have it with listening to music too - I tend to end up liking tracks more that hook me but take time to really get into… I am sure it’s the same for lots of people?

Anyway, I only just worked out how to sequence and control external midi gear via the 6 extra built in midi tracks on the MM - A simple experiment sequencing a Volca Keys and then routing it’s audio back into a thru/FX track. It’s opened up alot of ideas and I am totally loving it right now. The MM is great fun and very deep too. Way deeper than I imagined it would be.

I only have a Rytm, and really enjoying it. Currently agonizing over what to get next (in three weeks), the A4 or the OT. Going back and forth between those two, though a few months later I’d probably get the other box anyway.

The Monomachine also showed up on my horizon after I listed to some of Lem’s MM stuff.

Just can’t imagine music production without the OT nowadays.
The Machinedrum comes an extremely close 2nd.
The Monomachine not far behind that.
All 3 are personally essential…
Although for live OT & MD is enough.

A4 or AR? Not loosing sleep over desire for.
Nice to have but other gear covers their bases.

OT > MnM > MD

but on other days

MnM

probably the MnM that I no longer own. one day I’ll grab another.

OT running a close second.

amazing that the MM is on top

Octatrack is the pimp shit!!!

I’ve had all of them except the UW machinedrum. I’d say the Monomachine is the most interesting and special. The OT is the most fun. The machinedrum is the most immediate and utilitarian. The analog keys is the sweetest and most approachable. The AR is my least favorite. It has decent sound but the pads blow and I prefer the more flexible voice of the A4 and MNM and the immediacy and punch of the MD.

MNM > MD > OT > AK > A4 > AR

i agree really good description of all the boxes :+1:

I love every Elektron boxes, but if I would have to chart:

  1. MD UW
  2. AK/A4, OT, AR, MNM - ex aequo

OT hands down. It’s amazing what you can do with only OT and a few samples imo.
