Which cables for connecting the MD outs to MNM ins?

Hello fellow elektronauts,

It’s been said plenty of times that using the monomachine as a fx machine for other gear is great.

I wanna try that, and have my MD run through the mnm.

Question: the outputs from the MD are balanced, whereas the inputs on the MNM is unbalanced? So do I use balanced or unbalanced patch cables to connect the outs from the MD to the ins on the mnm? Or does it even matter much at all?

More generally, if anyone have tips for using the mnm fx like this, I’d be grateful if you would share.

I use ordinary patch cables, unbalanced ones and it works good for me :slight_smile:

Yeah unbalanced shouldn’t make any noticeable difference on runs under a couple of metres.
If you wanted to be really anal you could wire TRS To TS jacks.
Tip to tip then ring & sleeve to sleeve! It’s a pseudo balancing trick a lot of manufacturers use!

Coming to my personal suggestion how to use the MM as Fx unit is:

use THRU machines…and combinations of FX machines,you imagine your algorithm of modulation and you can get nice configurations from serial to parallel fx chaining.

I use coloured TRS patch cables so that when I take a machine away from the studio I can simply reconnect that machine without pulling cables out of the cable run.
