What's your other hobby/obsession?

I enjoy building DIY modules for Eurorack

I used to do 3d renderings in povray and later in lightwave. Made some big posters too. I hope i can find them again some time. Totally quit that hobby because of lack of time.

Climbing, (bouldering mainly). Snowboarding - Tignes & Mayrhofen coming up this month, whoop! Still pick up the axe now & then though the guitar isnt anywhere near as important to me as it once was!
Mountain bikes, sports bikes, bit of running/weights.
I would say travel but as I’ve done 160 flights+ since February I’m kinda all travelled out :slight_smile:

I make video games https://medium.com/dont-jostle-the-meka-2-mekas-quest

This forum genuinely rules. The proof is learning all the interesting things we all do. I’d say there is a smart crowd in here. On that note, my hobbies/real life job include,
Medicine, reading( mostly sci fi) , biking(urban road), dancing.

Music is my main productive hobby, most other stuff happens more or less infront of the TV. I’m known to be a huge movie and tv-show buff. Trying to watch at least a movie a day and also am an avid video gamer and football fan.

Besides that I doodle some (horribly drawn) cartoons and wander around the city with my camera to fill up my photo blog. Also I enjoy the occasional hike with my buddies. But yeah, I’m a couch potatoe :slight_smile:

Just bought myself a Indoboard to train my Bodybalance. Started Longboarding last summer, which is a lot of fun and makes your head clear. Besides that…having two little kids is hobby enough…

uiii… talented you are! very nice pics… if u r ever in berlin give me a shout…
pic with the guns is dope! (among many others)

what a nice toy!

I go running in the park, Aikido, Kung Fu, Bela Diri, cooking, used to do graphic design, self education (youtube documentary and wikipedia whore) , howard stern fan! obsessive researching anything I find interesting … cool thread :joy:

Very interesting thread indeed with impressive hobbies! Great artistis to be found in this forum, not “just” musicians!

For my part, music is the only art I’m doing, at least when martial arts don’t count which they shouldn’t, because it’s not really something creative. Used to do a lot of kickboxing and taekwondo, previously mountain biking, stunt skating etc. At the moment, it’s all about my little son.

Exactly, 3 and 1 yo here.

I used to be a web architect/unix programmer for a living, now I work with master plants (entheogens - Ayahuasca, mushrooms, cannabis, cactus, …).
To guide my ceremonies, I started with the native american flute, drums and maracas, but being a fan of electronic music for more than 25 years (I was 16 yo in 1990, always loved acid), I wanted to learn synthesizers for my guidance. So actually, making music is not a hobby anymore, but kind of a side assignment for my “job” (which I do for free. Yeah, I’m a nut job.)

So, hobbies ?
Unicycling (don’t own a bike nor a car, only unicycles : 26" and 36"), DIY electronics and micro-controllers (now playing with eurorack modules, but have built a bunch of Shruthi’s and other DIY gear), playing acoustic guitars and ukuleles, luthery (building acoustic guitar), organic chemistry (alkaloids extraction), hydroponic cultivation, mycology, rats breeding, RC helicopters, building a motion simulator for sim racing, and that’s it (for now at least.)

You can guess by the size of that list that
0. I’d have grey hairs if I had any left ;

  1. I’m quite hyperactive ;
  2. I’ve spent a lot of time single ;
  3. And don’t have any children :wink:

do you grow your own ayahuasca?

where do you get the seeds?

I really want to try some, but I dont want to go into the jungle in Peru, as I have some chronic diseases that would make that a bit dangerous i think…

No, I don’t grow my own Ayahuasca, yet, for many reasons.
I don’t live in a suitable climate (south of France/Spain, too dry, not hot enough all year round).
Also, it takes too long to grow a plant big enough to make ceremonies with.
And sourcing the seeds is more difficult than many other plants (I know of no one growing his own Ayahuasca, BTW)
Then, Ayahuasca is not the only plant used in a mixture, you also need a source of DMT, so either mimosa hostilis or chacruna / chapropanga, with the same issues as Ayahuasca (sourcing seeds, climate, production and time).

You don’t need to go to Peru to find Ayahuasca, though, as both plants are available online for reasonable fees, but then, you have 2 other problems : cooking it right (not that easy if you don’t have any prior experience), drinking a mixture of unknown potency, and most importantly, without the guidance of an experienced shaman. A good shaman is more than half the experience, and drinking alone can be too intense and dangerous or even life threatening. Ayahuasca is a very complex technology :wink:

Good news is : you don’t need Ayahuasca to have a deep shamanic experience/healing.
If you’re alone on this, it will be much easier to grow mushrooms (small footprint, big production in 6 weeks from scratch, no need for other plants, spores easy to score on the interwebs), and much more feasible to manage the “trip” alone.

All entheogenic plants can take you to the same places…
I did my apprenticeship with Ayahuasca, mushrooms and cactus, and the work is the same - though my peruvian master did advise me to try to stick to one plant.
I recently introduced 2 shaman friends with extensive experience in Ayahuasca (they learned with shamans in Peru) to the mushrooms, and they loved it so much that they don’t want to work with Ayahuasca anymore and switched exclusively to the shrooms.
They find the mushrooms much smoother and much less violent than Ayahuasca, though Ayahuasca is wonderful and full of love too.
They probably wouldn’t have got to where they are without Her.

I’d strongly encourage you to find a local shaman who’s working with plants (Ayahuasca or cactus - I know only of one shaman besides myself who works with mushrooms, and he was my master too) to have a first experience in shamanic ceremonies first, though… I find the rituals very important in order to work with respect for Yourself.
But once you’ve witnessed a real traditional ceremony, nothing stops you from doing the same on your own… with shrooms.

For more specific advice, should you want it, you can always PM me.
