What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 3)

Found the unobtanium Doctor A half an hour away from home, couldn’t pass on it!

Intentions: Dub!

I’ve had this old MOTU micro express for years. I bought it dirt cheap from someone on the coast of Canada and it smelled like cigarettes and saltwater and I loved that. It only has a parallel port, so I could never program it. Fortunately one of the presets worked the way I wanted.

I figured it was time for an upgrade. Went with the RK006.

Intentions: midi backbone.

I am madly jealous. It is probably my biggest synth-related regret that I did not order one when they were available…

Not a new purchase, rather a resurrection from my basement. My 4.5 year-old son is obsessed by Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters and System at the moment and has shown an interest in rocking out on drums and guitar!

So I got my old TD8 Roland electric kit out and set it up… he played on it for 20mins! Deep focus for him - he can’t reach the pedals yet but I’m thinking of knocking up some foot extensions a-la short round from Indiana jones! Pleased it still works after many years in non-ideal storage - love the choke function on the cymbal edge. Gonna midi it to my LXR and Volca Drum for some mangled synth drums - maybe get a knobby controller nearby to adjust parameters, or bring in my FCB1010 mapped to some crazy shizzle. Need some drum lessons too so if anyone in Yorkshire knows a good drum (autocorrect made it say drunk first lol) teacher hit me up!

Mine too for sure.

Those shouldn’t be hard to find . Love the story about your kid enjoying that music and the drums so early and you being able to support them in such an incredible way!

Yeah he’s got fire (anger!) and drumming is great to express that in healthy way - especially rock and metal styles! I think many young children would benefit from having access to a drum kit as an anger management tool. I’m lucky to have a family to share my passion with - my boss is a great drummer and used to teach, so he’ll have some recommendations for sure. When he’s ready I’ll get my son set up with an account here cos this is the best place on the internet - friendly, supportive, healthy and absolutely non-toxic!

After a quick run with it I can say that’s a really well thought out device. It has some of the Erica’s stuff vibe in it, it’s really playful, but with just enough controls/extension to make it also really useful for bread and butter stuff.

I really love the feedback control on the delay in particular, it’s really easy to catch and ride the repeats, and the on/off switch, without tails cut, it’s just chef’s kiss.

And on top of that you get 8 great reverb algorithms and lp/hp filters for both effects, kinda similar to the elektron take on that

I really love my Micromonsta2 and the Doctor A does nothing but confirm my connection with @elektrosamplist creations.

Likewise; I think it was after I got a MM2 that I really hoped I’d be able to get a Doctor A, but sadly it wasn’t to be; maybe one day!

While you’ve got him there, ask the goose if he has a banana so we can get the proof of scale logged properly.

A friend of mine is making them here in Tokyo. This is the Pro Muzer version, which has attack and sustain control instead of sub and sustain. It also has switchable beat sense mod.

Will be a limited run to 50 pieces: https://www.ult-sound.com/shop
