Iā€™m using my DAW rarely, more like a tape-machine for everything and of course you are right when the AD/DA-conversion is bad then nothing helps at all, i could also stay in the box ā€¦ but i donā€™t want to spend 3k+ on a decent converter-box/interface like those from Antelope, Metric Halo or Lynx. Iā€™m quite happy with my Motu although it is nearly 10 years old. With the XP i have eight hq stereo-inputs or sixteen mono or inbetween, just for my basic needs ā€¦ if Iā€™m crazy enough (and I am) i use it as a simple line-level-mixer with this extra little touch of love on top, doing all the leveling and frequency-balancing in my boxes (AR, A4, Typhon, Iridium, Live) and sum it together.

The auto-level-balancing in the XP (i have no other correct term for it) acts like a teacher in a school who is soft-managing the dynamics of every individual student in a class-room to a certain level and preparing them to act as one by fulfilling a certain task - optimized unity. Well that is an audio-esoteric effusion  .

You can hear it, period.

I started reading this a few days back. What a ride!

2nd Harlow V1 for stereo transformer saturation.

I had sold my old 2nd Harlow here in Dec 2019, just needed the cash. Never got around to selling the other. Glad I didnā€™t.

Will use on Typhon, Pro 2, Microtonic, and occasionally shoot out against the Analog Heat.
It has a tilt eq and the one knob compressor is great on synths.

RIP Rupert.

Same. Iā€™ll probably buy everything Sinevibe releases for the logue sdk family. Droplet is an amazing addition.

i already have all sinevibes collection, it rocks.

I actually had a thought about this recently. That is, using a pair of these on a master insert, freeing up my analog heat for more exciting tasks. Iā€™ll be looking out for your comparison.

One of these is my next intentionā€¦ sound pretty cool after watching a few YouTune videos :+1:

My latest purchase is a used dbx 1074 QuadGate. Its primary use case is for rhythmic gate patterns trigger via the side-chain key input from a spare drum machine.

Overall, the product will achieve a specialized need when desired.

The plan is to produce a video comparing the two, and also plug-in solutions.
Using a couple sources. OT, MD, etc.

As for using it as a master insert on a mixer that has a master insert, Iā€™d recommend against it, as it is easy to overdrive with a hot master bus signal. So unless youā€™re okay keeping your track levels about 10dB lower, itā€™s not ideal there. Really, depends on the mixer, though.

Itā€™s funny, in doing some mono tests recently, before the 2nd arrived, I felt like it was not as ideal as the Heat for heavier mixes.
But it turns out itā€™s just so easy to overdo it in mono with a full mix. You can fool yourself into running out of headroom. In stereo thereā€™s more headroom due to reduced level of pan laws, and it really does hit the sweet spot. The Harlow pair certainly does the same kind low end saturation and compression the Heat can do, with a little less high end sizzle, but a lot more midrange weight. Whatā€™s real interesting is how similar the transformer saturation on the low end sounds to the Heatā€™s Clean Boost when using the envelope follower to reduce the drive on kicks. It makes me appreciate both.
All in all, itā€™s great to have both the Harlows and the Heat. Kinda like a 9th drive circuit.

CV.OCD for my Octatrack. Iā€™m using it to :

  • Sequence two other voices
  • Clock Division
  • LFOs from the Octatrack
  • Running (will free one of the ERM Multiclock Channel)
  • Stop / Reset

I really love that little box !

I wanna get one too for sending ot lfos to the Modular and clock divided outputs. I already had one but canā€™t seem to figure out what I did with it. I imagine Iā€™d find it the moment I order another.

BX Oberhausen

Is on sale and combined with the monthly voucher it cost almost nothing. Just installed it and started going through the presets and was more than pleasantly suprised. This thing sounds really good!

Iā€™m looking at midi to cv modules so Iā€™m trying to figure out mentally how this works with modules Iā€™m looking at. Can you send an LFO over midi in some way or do you have to modulate trigs to do so?

The LFOs on the OTā€™s MIDI sequencer tracks can be assigned to various parameters including CC messages.

Most MIDI-to-CV convertors can convert MIDI CC messages to Control Voltages.

My first euro module is in the house. Intention is to quantize the 0-ctrl and make additional sequences by quantizing a S&H module. Then exploring whatever else this thing can do with the Hemispheres firmware.

Itā€™s going to be a long three days before I get the case to put it in :persevere:

I have a Nerdseq with the extra midi module and while it is technically a sequencer, it excels in converting midi to cvā€¦ I use my OP-Z to input note data. I can basically set up 8 tracks of unlimited length and record the midi data and it will be translated to CV and gatesā€¦

Another scenario that I havenā€™t tried yet is to let my OP-Z sequence my modules via Nerdseq and then set up Sequencer FX on each Nerdseq track that has additional effects on the sequenceā€¦ lots of possibilities hereā€¦ so anyways, itā€™s pricey but itā€™s a damn cool module which has great support from the developer.

Just a shot in the dark, I donā€™t have this module: Does it not do S&H itself?

I would think it does but tbh I got it primarily as a quantizer and getting to run a second program on it with Hemispheres firmware is just a bonus for me so I havenā€™t looked into the other stuff much.

S+H will be coming from MI Kinks, which will also be providing plenty of other functions. I just figured it would be a nice way to utilize the second O&C quantizer channel and add some variations to the mix.
