What's your latest purchase & what are your intentions with it? [pics ftw] (Part 1)

Blown away by that thing.
Very rich analog tones.
BBD Delay and Chorus are the sweet spot effects I have to say.
Definitely a keeper
Although not many direct access knob per function, I have set it up on my DT with 8 additional CCs shortcuts (mainly FiltEnv, AmpEnv, LFO and WaveShape).
This is going to free up my Deepmind 12 for Bass/Leads patches.
Now on to that GR-1 for granular
MODEL1 just got sold so I might consider it seriously

Let me know if you go for it. I’m still considering it too. But I’m on a less is more tip at the moment to enable me to focus.

Awesome. Someday I will have to do the same. This is my Mom’s piano (made in early 1900’s) that will be passed on to me (hopefully not for a long time). It resides in Tucson Arizona, and will someday be relocated to me in Seattle.

Awesome!

Beautiful! :raised_hands:

I keep telling people it’s the best analog under $1000. Had quite a few synths side-by-side and it just sounds better.

Piston & Donut are a constant source of temptation!
I managed the Cyclebox and it’s expander for just a bit more than the AH one so happy enough with the outlay.

Score! Its expander is almost impossible to find!

Yeah I totally couldn’t afford it but zero hesitation, there won’t be another for ages.

Another ‘special’ module is the Malekko Richter Megawave. Used ones usually sell for peanuts, much less than the similar Piston Honda. It’s actually a waveshaper using wavetables, designed to be driven by an upward saw, but drive it with Synchrodyne’s imperfect saw and then filter it with Synchrodyne
never heard anything like it. It’s got most of the wavetables from the Waveform City, Maddox Monowave, & Blacet Miniwave and a bunch of others. 8-bit with no interpolation. Yum. It can even be used as a scale quantizer or CV modulator.

That Cyclebox is a keeper! Jealous.

That looks fantastic - “ audio wave shaper, complex LFO function generator, stage quantizer, random function generator, non-linear waveform distortion unit”
Another for the wish list
Gotta learn that synchrodyne/expand first. As much as that can be learnt, from what I hear!

You haven’t mentioned your intentions with it
I read that it was possible to swap the regular voice card to have a dedicated drum machine for the 6 voices. Do you know more about it ?

Intention: space noises

Haven’t heard about that voice card swap, but pretty much have drum sounds covered

With the latest SMR Pi cards in it, I can’t imagine changing it up unless I end up wanting a Polivoks one for variety.

Edit: er, filter boards. Thanks @Airyck

My man! That’s an awesome bundle of creation you’ve got there. But you gotta full screen Live and make that dock automagically disappear for maximum music making

(You’ve just reminded me that my Live 10 trial runs out in 3 weeks, then I’ve gotta pony up :frowning:)

The cards are filters instead of full voices.

It’s possible someone got creative with them but I haven’t heard anything about a drum machine in place of the filter cards before.

You have 1 output for each filter though so you could still use the synth as a 6 voice hybrid drum machine with individual outputs if you were so inclined.

I found an old article when the Ambika was announced. It was only a prototype (based on the Shruti engine). That article mentioned the will to have a dedicated card for drums:
« Other voicecards are under development for the Ambika, Mutable Instruments announces in particular a multi-channel ROMpler and an analog module of 2 instruments, both drums oriented. »
Maybe it was just a will but was never released.

I found a thread about it on the Mutable forums but to my understanding it needs to write an dedicated OS
actually it confused me even more so I haven’t dig further :worried:

Yeah, they must have had other plans they never got around to.

I’m pretty sure Mutable peeps wanted to get away from the whole DIY thing after Ambika and moved heavily into modular stuff.

I catch myself saying the same thing all the time. They do allow you to have more voices so it’s not totally wrong.

I hate it for sounding so good!
I spend so much time with two AS-1’s and the AR. Then I look at all my other keyboards (including the P6) wasting away.
