Great thread!!

2018 has been such an awesome year of music for me. I feel like I’ve let myself enjoy so much more, and so much out of my comfort zone in a few ways. Without any particular order:

Except this, this is my #1: Toxe - Blinks EP (Playful and cheeky, genreless electronic music with a very particular, odd sound that is just lovely and fascinating. Completely threw me off guard, but I kept coming back.)

Aphex Twin - Collapse EP (Some of Aphex Twin’s best work, incredibly dense and absolutely mental yet has an air of playfulness that makes it sound effortless and painstakingly put together at the same time.)

Sophie - Oil of Every Pearl’s Un-Insides (This is pop music as it should be. Enough said. My face is the front of shop.)

Sega Bodega - self*care (Dope mix of distorted sounds and super cheesy melodies, fun and quirky uses of outright classic vocal samples, and an eclectic blend of genres.)

Mechatok - All My Time (It’s like a soft pillow with a very cheesy but amazing print on it. Comfortable.)

Amnesia Scanner - Another Life (One of my co-workers thought I was joking when I shared this in our music channel. It’s so far out there, and I love that.)

Doon Kanda - Luna EP (It’s mellow and a bit sad, like Burial through a glitchy machine learning algorithm)

Bit Shifter - Closed System Blues (Infinitely happy to see one of my early heroes of music return, an impossible follow up to one of the most acclaimed chiptune releases ever. Pulls it through with a blast, great music to cycle to in the summer.)

Dopplereffekt - Athanatos (The mysterious masters return, this time (finally) with some beats and a slight return to form. Cold, as expected, and some of their best work in years)

Releases I enjoyed but can’t think of anyting clever to write:
Low - Double Negative,
Helios - Veriditas,
Birds ov Paradise - Bayou,
KC Baby - Lila Blå,
Mokira - Chill Out
Vessel - Queen of Golden Dogs,
Objekt - Cocoon Crush,
Belia Winnewisser - Radikale Akzeptanz,
Tirzah - Devotion,
Sky H1 - Motion,
Faten Kanaan - Foxes,
Gayphex Twin - Spiro,
Jung An Tagen - Agent Im Objekt,

And most listened to album that was not released in 2018: Umfang - Symbolic Use of Light.

Toxe and Sega Bodega releases were stellar! Did you check out the Iglooghost EPs? Mental.

Hell yes, some love for Amnesia Scanner! They are on some next-level ish for the club scene.

This as well. Rinsed that record

Haven’t gotten around to that, will check it out! Thanks for the reminder.

Mac Miller’s “Swimming.”

I wrote the dude off a long time ago as ‘frat-rap,’ or something I couldn’t care any less about.

Wow, though. He evolved.

I can’t stop replaying the album.

I shall try to keep my judgements in check going forward.
