Chord memory on the Korg Mono/Poly, as used to great effect by Danny Wolfers on e.g. the Klaus Weltman album:

Subharmonicon has got to be up there, it sounds melancholic in my hands anyway, particularly with some infinitely sad reverb

Isn’t related to the state of mind more than the Synth. Any Synth can sound « the more » melancholic.

Demos of that sound like Casiotone-ish.

Does the sadness come from import fees and shipping?

My Lyra-8 screams and barks and howls but is rarely melancholic.

Try being more of a miserable git whilst playing it.

Indeed. That’s what initially drew me to them. Me, my first call for mournful synths used to be a Yamaha CS-60. I stupidly sold it long ago. Nowadays, it’s the Haken Continuum. It’s all about the expressive capabilities, whether it’s the CS’ ribbon, or the neoprene surface of the Continuum.

I’m already gothy, i’ll try sadder and with more OTO BIM!

Oh no, I try to forget that the Continuum exists. I’ve been eyeing this Synth from the beginning.

It might be my favorite instrument.
