Whats the best way to play Digitakt with Synthesizers?

Hi there,

I’m pretty new to this and I wanted to ask if you guys can shed some light on how to (or the best way to) connect the followings so I can play these instruments in a live setting without a DAW/computer?

  • Digitakt
  • 2x Synthesizers (moog sub37 and arturia microfreak)

I have Komplete Audio 6 as my audio interface and wondering if this should be used as the medium to link the Digitakt to my monitors via 2xTS cables into Komplete Audio 6’s input 1 and 2, and connect my Synths via a midi cables into my Digitakt like below:

2x Monitors (TS in) ---- (TS out) Komplete Audio 6 (TS in) ---- (TS out) Digitakt (midi out) ---- (midi in) Sub 37 (midi out) ---- (midi in) Microfreak

(1) Is this the way to do it? Is Komplete Audio 6 even necessary?
(2) what if i want to add a bass guitar into the set up? How should I connect it?

Thank you for helping out.

you speak off without daw/pc

Does the komplete audio 6 works without a pc, I don’t think so
if so how will you change your volumes without the pc

  1. I think its better that you go for a mixer
  2. bass guitar - dibox -input mixer

I don’t know how evident this is, but you also need to connect your synths outputs to the inputs of your audio interface/mixer… but Kenneth is right, you might rather need a mixer if you want to play it live. An audio interface’s main use is to record different audio sources into different tracks in your DAW simultaneously, converting the analog audio signal into a digital one.

I think, if you don’t have one (or the money to buy it) you could use the DT inputs to connect your synths into it, and then setup the monitoring to “yes”, but with this I don’t know how panning could work. And connecting a bass guitar instead of a synth needs an amplifier in between.

That is also a possibility, but I think in his case its easier to put it directly in to his mixer with a di box so his bass guitar also comes out of his monitors

There are some mixers with a Hi z input(input for guitars) but it will limit your choice of mixers a lot

You can connect your sub 37 to input L of digitakt and your output of the microfreak (I think its also mono)in input R of DT and DT inputs on EXT L +R and it will be summed to mono.

But actually the way to go (without daw/pc) is a mixer
Just go for a mixer with 8 inputs (you already need one stereo(or two mono’s) and two mono’s channels) and you are future proof

Thanks all, very helpful.

oh, yeah, I forgot about the DI box just because, unlike an amplifier, I don’t own one. And I am actually not very familiar with them.

Hi there !
I don’t have a DT now, but i’m thinking to bought one.
Is it possible, when you do what you wrote, to use the effects of the DT ?

sadly not… the inputs are a bit different. I can‘t recommend using them with a synth. Better use a digitone for that.

Read about it here:

Out of the two Digis…

Only the Digitone can apply FX to incoming sounds.

You can however sample and then apply FX to your mono samples.

EDIT: DN can also push Inputs to USB audio whereas the DT can’t. So it’s like an FM audio interface with FX ha!
