this is how much it currently costs to buy a new syntakt
I was primed for a $2k+ Tonverk from the getgo. I suppose now I’d better be expecting a $2400+ unit. But I don’t know if I’m a Tonverk believer and I don’t know if it’s gonna have any features I want.
Seems quite logical and checks out. 10% new tariffs and a comparatively weak dollar.
Assuming nothing changes with more flip flop flip flop, the EU will be hit with 20% in July. People touting “nothingburger” don’t understand what is coming.
A4 and AR have parameter slides, I use them all the time. The OT, A4, and AR all have conditional trigs. I have and revere an MD but I think the AR is More o rless perfect as an instrument. The Euclidean thing is not necessary as such but it’s a great way to explore rhythmic spaces because of Elektron’s unique implementation. Per-track musical scales are also wonderful and sorely missed on the A4/OT -it kinda kills me that the latter has such a great arpeggiator but it only lets you select major & minor for key constraints as i like pentatonic scales a lot.
I’ve never had an MNM but I don’t think it or the MD shine as bright today without being able to set individual track lengths and conditional trigs. The latter have really bound me to Elektron for life because you can do make the conditions a function of the sequence repetition and do logical operations with them. I’ve never used the % probability values and never will, I’d be fine if they were removed as an option lol.
The probability modifier is really cool combined with the modulo operations. Also cool to add occasional 16th note flourishes to an otherwise straight 8th note hihat pattern. When I use straight probability it’s usually for a cool p-lock that is followed by another trig microtimed right up to it to be practically the same time so the trig always happens but the p-lock only sometimes happens
I do like using trigless trigs to p-lock things/modify para meter slides but I’m still never using probability, I don’t like randomness. The cycling conditiona are a way to build very long sequences in a single pattern, but I want there to be a structure and randonness feels like cheating somehow. I’'m not too fond of the random LFO either except for very subtle drifting or as a noise source with a high multiplier.
Mostly with you there, still haven’t found a use for random outside of subtle modulation. (But for that it’s useful)
Some trig conditions can expand the pattern, but also make it less clear what’s going on, since it’s hidden under another layer.
Using 0% and p-locked 100% Trigs is a nice and quick way to add a variation on a Track (a must for me). I call it controlled Probabilities.
Random LFOs are a must for subtle/human variations on Drums. Random LFOs work better on specific Parameters and bring unexpected and interesting results for a listener like me.
I find random works best when it is surrounded by predictability.
Just some guessing of what might be next (for SB25?):
DN2 keys : 30% chance
ARII + A4II : 50%
OTII: 40%
M:Smk2 + M:Cmk2 : 15%
TONVERK: 60%
And nothing new for SUPERBOOTH 90%.
my money’s on power handle mkii
I had it as an option too(50%), but decided to stay positive
I’m infatuated by the idea that staying positive requires a company whose many products we own and love to launch new kit on the heals of the DT2 and DN2.
I say A4 FIRMWARE UPDATE
Superbooth Eve is a Wednesday so I think probability is like 75%
Of all things, this is by far the least likely.
Unfortunately.
