What's next for Elektron? (Part 2)

It strikes me that Elektron have done pretty well so far by ignoring things that users (or potential users) think they must do.

Personally I’m more interested in seeing what Elektron come up with next (with a specific, idiosyncratic set of ideas) rather than Elektron making the ultimate box that can do anything. I understand why people want the ultimate box that can do anything, but Elektron of all companies seems like an unlikely place to expect it from.

Individual outs per track would be a good start for 1000 euros boxes.

I’m remember I have seen a reddit post with someone telling there is a wifi module into the Tonverk. I think the future of elektron is more about hybride things than a lot of new gear (we already have everything right ?)

if you mean hybrid like Ableton machines then that’s a tough competition, if I’m not mistaken?

16 stereo outs + master + headphones on a box the size of a Digitakt? Yeah, that’s certainly going to happen.

Were they referring to a Digi box, though?

I mean, you don’t get a Tonverk for 1k €.

I mean, they put a wifi module into the Tonverk. It’s not a mistake. Everything is planned. Knowing the power of TV with linux kernel, it is possible the gear have a full network stack. Connecting you TV to your internet box and reaching something on the internet would make sense.

They got a WiFi module for free with the SOC they used, I think would probably be more accurate

Yeah, I don’t think they put it there so much as they just didn’t remove it from the SOC it came on.

I wouldn’t necessarily go banking on them having any plans for it.

You never know though, I suppose…

If you look at the teardown pics (which I’m not gonna link to here but you can find them) it’s not part of an SoC, it’s a separate module. It also has two little coax cables plugged into it attached to antennas stuck inside the case (well, only one is visible, the other seems to be behind the board. But there are two cables, presumably one wifi and one bluetooth.) So they are definitely leaving their options open.

What could wifi be used for though besides data transfer? (Usb works well enough for that).

It’s a sarcasm from my part. I agree that every instrument should be unique but at the same time this is a new era in tech. If Elektron doesn’t take advantage of it to polish their own instrument capabilities they will be left to the past. Elektron should build on this idea of providing the platform of the future in Open source. Without compromising its own Legacy. This is already true by the fact that modders are not erasing the Elektron DNA at All they want to be able to enhance their own experience to bring unique results. People like to be Unique and Elektron is that unique product.

Maybe they will introduce the Model:Vibes for this crowd

As someone who only has experience with the Digitakt 1, I’d like to see a simpler, smaller Octatrack for immediate sample mangling and fun. I know that likely won’t happen, with the Digitakt 2 and all but I sure did enjoy the immediacy of the Digitakt.

However, I didn’t enjoy all the limitations, (sample size, etc.) I eventually ended up in Ableton because of the freedom it provides. Nonetheless, I’ve always been interested in trying the Octatrack crossfader, sample manipulation and effects fun.

I know it takes a lot more work to get to that fun than the videos show so that’s why I’d selfishly love an “easier” version . Also I’m tired of huge devices (Push 3 :flushed:), so a more compact Octatrack is appealing. Don’t think it’ll ever happen though.

I dream of something similar. I like the idea of using an OT, but it’s overkill for an fx box imo. I’d love an FX mixer with lopper for transitions. USB connected with tons of effects that can be assigned to individual tracks, crossfader, punch in FX, Digi form factor.

the only credible thing i think of is a type of ableton link sync. and maybe aproject manager like ableton move.

Have you looked into the new dirtywave product being developed? I’m sure people were speaking about it as a cross fader alternative to octatrack
