What's next for Elektron? (Part 1)

Just FYI, they’re going for $799 now. Call your rep and get that price adjusted!

Guys has anyone considered the possibility that there are major issues with the production process that they can’t figure out, and they are forced to pause production?

Logic? After all this time?

Maybe they’ll finally allow samples/sampling on ST

Great updates are coming. They include alternative operating systems for existing machines, which can be accessed via a monthly subscription.

Digitakt: Classic mode. Or as a 3-track loop station with chorus effect.
Digitone: Classic mode or as a telephone modem.
Syntakt: Classic mode or as a monophonic sampler with 2 stereo tracks.
Octatrack: Classic mode or as a 4-track Spotify player.
Analog Rytm: Classic mode or FM radio.
Analog Four: Classic mode or interactive room lighting.

I’m waiting for ChatGPT API integration into Digitakt to automate music making with absolutly 0 skill and produce banger.

Edit: And talk with my Digitakt, the most interesting part.

Possible. Affecting the DT first, or only the Sweden made boxes? OT is made in Poland, Models in Estonia, analogs I don’t know… I don’t have one to see the label underneath.

Maybe an acid box they could call it -Acidtone

Hopefull a box but with crossfade looping, granular ish mode, polyphony, chorus fx, switchable midi to audio tracks, no normalization when sampling etc etc

Wondering what segment the next Elektron release will fall into. My gut feeling would tell me that they have their bases covered in the mid-tier price range with the digis. Anecdotally, these seem the most popular and profitable. And they got a lot of love with regular recent updates. They’re also the face of their 25th anniversary.

So my guess before the Digitakt rumors would have been that they‘re either releasing a new flagship. Or that they‘ll try again with an entry level groovebox that has an internal battery this time around.

However, both segments seem a bit crowded today. So maybe updated digis that justify a slight price increase without pushing them into the flagship price territory is probably the most likely move? Economics seem kinda unpredictable, so doubling down on the most profitable and beloved machines/range seem like a good move right now.

These segments are crowded for a reason.

I’ll say it again; I have the Digiakt and Syntakt, but give me the same machines that are 1 cm flatter, and have internal battery, and I’ll buy them again.

What about the color? Keeping it black? Gray? Chrome E25 style? Purple like Prince?

Personally I’d keep it black, as is. Maybe offer different limited edition versions down the line

what about something like the Analog Heats, but instead of Audio Inputs it has multiple USB Audio inputs and the Overbride multi-track thing inside, so you can route the individual tracks from the other elektron boxes to different effect buses. like a very powerful mixer+effects box to integrate the sounds from all of the other machines?

I was thinking about this the other day and find it very appealing. But then again, aren’t you essentially describing what OB with a DAW is supposed to be used for?

I‘d definitely love their next devices to have effects that are not send to one master track but can be set to whatever you want to like on OT. And for OB to reflect that.

While that would be useful for some people, I think you can already do this with a computer, if you want to get so fiddly. I think more people love hardware for a hands on intuitive condensed experience… Also this means that for anyone buying such a machine, there would be a prerequisite to own one or more of their other boxes already, since it would be proprietary. I would be interested, but all in all I can not see it as a good business thing.

I‘d probably do the same. So you’re suggesting they fold their segments. I think they won’t do that since they’d lose a lot of money. Besides, I‘m not sure many potential buyers in the high end range would really see portable and battery powered as a pro. Aside from Elektronauts, my impression from most online places at least is that people willing to spend above 1.500€ prefer something hefty and criticize a lot of stuff as having too small knobs or joking about things with a battery as toys. Those who think differently probably are already covered with an OP1 Field or Deluge.

@Juice: I hope Elektron go for anything but black. Grey would be fine, some color even nicer. But I doubt they’ll ever try that after doing it with A4/AR/OT and then reverting to black. There’s obviously a good reason for that. Except for maybe it’s a totally different device like something portable and goofy and they want to stress that to separate it from the „serious“ black boxes.
