What's in the compressor?

Hi folks,

I’ve recently been having fun playing around with running mixes through the stereo compressor of my Rytm MKII, partially since its the only “hardware” compressor I own.

It got me wondering if anyone has some insight into what the compressor circuit is like, how it is designed, and if it has some compressor style it is modeled after. I’d imagine is essentially some VCA circuit, but I’d be curious if anyone knew anything more. Some time ago, it appears someone mentioned that it could use a THAT 4301 in the design…

If you located an identical topic already that is still the best thread to develop despite its age, the Mk1 is internally the same as the Mk2 (less the additions to the Mk2)
