What’s the weirdest/least conventional Digitakt 2 track you’ve heard?

Try as I may, I can’t find anything on the internet, made by a Digitakt 2, that really piques my interest. By all accounts, it’s a next-level, super flexible sampler/sequencer,…but all I can find is formulaic techno/house/breakbeat etc. No disrespect to anyone making that kind of music, it just ain’t my thing.

Am I just misguided about the possibilities of the DTII?

So yeah, I’m not interested in getting into a semantic argument
Just genuinely want to know if anyone can point me to something that is a really creative/unorthodox/experimental way of using samples?

I feel the same about the Digitakt. I realised some time ago that managing samples isn’t really my thing, so I use it in a very “dry” way, mainly playing samples, mostly drums.

There’s so much amazing music that people produce with samples and by sampling records in such a creative way but somehow it didn’t stick with me. I’ve been more interested in the digital side of sound design.

I guess it’s just a matter of taste and creative approach.

I’m glad I’m not the only one!

Yes, I think I just probably accept that the Digitakt 2 isn’t the device that will be at the heart of my live set up (which is basically what I was trying to establish)

Thanks for your feedback @Itaro !

I don’t think it’s a Digitakt 2 problem. Haven’t heard any groundbreaking sample based music in general lately. If you have an example please post a link!

this was done on DT1, but probably not exactly what you are looking for

Here is some more ambient/experimental kind of stuff. Not sure if this meets your criteria.

I know it’s not the Digitakt, but I believe Avey Tare from Anima Collective used the mono machine to record his record ‘Down There’. Here’s a track.

I don’t see why one couldn’t achieve similar styles on a Digitakt.

But really, it’s just that Elektron draws the attention of a certain audience - I’m not surprised that most Elektron users like to make the “typical” house/breakbeat/techno kind of stuff.

Digitakt 1. One of my favorite videos that really drew me in to the machine

um here’s something i made on the dt2 around the first time i got it

just a lot of parameter locking the comb filter i think

it can get weird but its weirdness is sort of relative to how much one is willing to dispel any notions they may have of a traditional sampler (which is hard to do!)

Thanks everyone - this is all really helpful. I appreciate your input

Another question; anyone using the DTII with a non-Elektron sequencer? For example, I’m wondering how it would be if I fed Fugue Machine Rubato (a sequencer I have recently fallen totally in love with), into the Digitakt?

Beautiful!

I wouldn’t say this is weird or unconventional but it’s definitely not formulaic house/techno/breakbeat

if you prefer the sequence-workflow on the Fugue Machine Rubato over the Digitakt’s then I imagine you would probably enjoy it :+1:

I paired my Digitakt with a Yamaha QY700 and sync both sequencers. It’s been fun - the QY700 is sick

Music is pretty weird when you think about it.

What means weird/ less conventional is pretty subjective.

This track contains a sample of me walking down the beach and throwing my Digitakt in the sea.
