What’s the crown jewel of your gear collection?

It’s my beloved AR MKI

Probably my PRS Kingfisher bass my wife bought me.

In her typical style she wanted it over and done with and dragged me to a music shop on the way home from running some errands and between her and the sales guy made me ignore everything I thought I wanted from a bass and just basically try everything in the store. It was just the one. Wasn’t the look, brand, 5 string, P or J that I thought I might come away with, but without a doubt it was the most comfortable and felt better than anything else I tried in any price range in the store.

I mean, the pickups suck but that can be fixed.

For me it’s gotta be my Ciat-Lonbarde duo, Cocoquantus and Plumbutter. I got them a little over a year ago — I was in a post-breakup funk and probably a little overeager to hit the ‘buy’ button, but they’re handmade by the guy who imagined them and they sound unlike anything else I own, so I’m very happy to have them around.

I can see myself playing them for years to come — can’t promise any good music will come from all that playing but I know it’ll bring me joy.

I really like my AFX Station. Looks cool, simple to use but surprising variety of sounds, and it looks cool.

My 1948 Leedy snare drum in White Marine Pearl. It’s absolutely NEVER leaving the kit.

Sleishman. (18 inch kick, 14x5 snare, 14x14 floor)
Suspended shells. Other wise known as free floating. Licensed from Sleishman by Pearl. Don Sleishman invented the design and patented it a long time ago along with the double bass pedal, and a few other things. He’s a very nice bloke. I know him.

both were liberating, and changed the way i envisioned making music

I’d say either the euros, Nord A1, Elektron Trinity(OT, AR, A4), or Digi Quads (DT, ST,AH,DN). I love these gear porn topics.

I’d have to say my Machinedrum UW It just sounds so god damn good and I’m very happy to own it, I wanted one since they were released but couldn’t afford dropping the kind of money on one piece of gear until round 2013, that year I bought both the monomachine and machinedrum UW (and a bounch of other stuff) regrettably I sold my MnM last year because someone offered me ridiculous amount for it, otherwise I would had said my MDUW/MnM combo would have been the crown jewel. I was tempted to say my 9U of 90hp eurorack or Virus TI polar because of their price and capabilities both of which I love but the MDUW is just such a monster and I’m proud to have mine. If I was forced to sell off tons of gear the MDUW would be pretty much last on the list.

I suppose I should also add my Octatrack Mk1 not only because it’s a fantastic instrument but also for kind of superstitious reasons, in 2017 I was in near fatal car crash (broke my neck, totaled the car) I was on the way home from my studio space at the time and had my OT in a case in the back seat, when the car rolled apparently the case went through the window, opened up and sent the OT flying, it was found about 50 feet from the wreck out of the case face up and perfectly fine. So both the fact that it survived long along with me and was also returned to me by the tow truck guy makes me feel like if there is such thing as fate (which there isn’t) then I should absolutely use it in my work. Pure superstitious bullshit but still. So in that sense it’s a bit of a crown jewel as well.

Mine would be a black Gibson Les Paul Studio which I bought second hand back when I was 16. It’s my very first musical instrument and had to work my ass off at a fast food chain for a whole summer to buy it.

It’s full of scratches, neck snapped twice, and looks really tired - but I would never sell or throw away. Bastard still sounds good!

I love my prophet 6 the most and it was by far the most expensive… it took a really long time to pay off, and it was probably my best purchase. But I should say my mpc, it is by far my most important and used the most. I honestly don’t really need anything else, all my other gear besides the mpc is really just because I like them…

Don’t know if it is a “crown jewel” but it’s certainly the most expensive item I own - a Virus TI2 Polar.

OB6 desktop. My first “high end” synth- sent me down the hardware rabbit hole. It’s truly amazing…don’t think I’ll ever part with it

Not sure, I think it’s probably still my Rytm Mk2.

Something in me stills says it’s my Pearl black beauty snaredrum clone, but I’m only performing on drums very sporadically for the last 5 years.
