Maybe not writing assembly, but being able to read it is as important as ever.
ARM assembly is said to be extremely nice to work with.
Also, lots of people make small demos or video games in assembly for the GB / GBA / 3DS / etc. portable platforms. I’m not sure how easy / pleasant it is, but there is a big hacker community that should have forums and discords and other useful support.
If I remember correctly, the beginning of Elektron as a company is connected to the demoscene and I won’t be surprised to learn that early machines were dev in assembler and C. For the present, who knows maybe it is Overbridge that is developed in Rust not the Digi series or model series ?
