Right on, do you use it for bass patches much? Just bought a subsequent 37 and I adore the sound and workflow. Curious which of the recommended polys handle bass particularly well.
I played a Fourm recently that was… surprisingly great sounding. It can do the Pro-1 flavor really nicely.
Agreed! And some of the extra features were added later in free updates–Novation was very generous with the Peak featureset by the time it was done.
If there’s ever a Peak 2, I’d love to see some kind of Digitone-like screen-and-knobs UI that would get to the hidden parameters quicker. But Peak is a good synth as it is.

There is something magic about this synth - especially when multiple notes are playing together with a long release; it just has such a compelling sound. Even when using simple wavetables. It’s my favourite synth.

I’m looking at buying the Prophet 6 desktop, although I might change my mind when I come to the point where I can actually afford it.
I keep going back & forth between the P6 the Ob6 & the Rev2 - looks like there are fine things to say about any of these instruments and really it comes down to personal preference.
If money were no object I’d probably go completely crackers and buy a Moog One or something but although I am a middle-aged white dude I am, sadly, not quite that rich!
Man the choices nowadays are endless. Before Dave Smith came back with the Prophets in early 2000 there was not really much going on especially with analog synths but now?
I do like the Artemis because of the raw sound. And 1300 for a six voice analog?!?!
I had the UB-Xa which sounds really good.
At the moment I am really happy with the TEO-5. It is a great synth. The filters are just crazy good and the price is great. As well as the size of that synth, fits almost everywhere
If I was up for a new and affordable synth now it would be either the Super 6 or the Artemis. And I am still looking at the Behringer Wave, great form factor and 8 voices with analog filters… Uh I need to leave this thread, tempting.
Starsky Carr did a Youtube video where he tried to get a Fourm to imitate a Pro-1 and it was pretty persuasive. Fourm is staking a claim for the very niche title of best monosynth with poly aftertouch!
I’ve been loving Erica Synths Steampipe.
It’s the first synth I’ve played with in a long time that can’t easily be replicated by any other synth.
I really dig my Redshift 6. It’s so versatile and it sounds great. The devs have delivered on all promises on time and there is a nice roadmap for exciting new features. If it was never developed anymore, it’s great as is so to me, anything else is a bonus. I think the interface is easy to use.
I don’t have a Polyvera but I am pretty interested in it. I think it would be a great addition to what I have. So, maybe in a few months I will be able to grab one if it is still as compelling to me.
Ive been jonesing for a Kijimi from black corp for a while now.
I’ve made a lot of bass sounds with it in both mono and unison modes. Sometimes I prefer my OB-6 for the square sub-oscillator. But the triangle sub-oscillator on the Prophet is something I reach for specifically as well for a rounder bottom end. Both synths produce some nice bass sounds. I have a Bass Station 2 which has switchable waveforms on the sub-oscillator and produces some nice bass as well. But sometimes, I gotta have the unison mode on the Prophet and the OB. What’s good about it as that it’s selectable from 2-6 voices.
Tbh, after demoing it I was quite disappointed by most of the other Sequential & DSI synths in that room, despite their extended possibilities; it just won by its musicality.
House/breaks/techno I guess! Whatever comes out when I switch it all on.
TEO-5 is far more versatile than I expected, It’s been great for big and growling or rich deep basslines, for percussion, as well as the luscious pads you would expect from an Oberheim.

It’s a short list. I already have a Moog One and Super 6 [sorry not trying to brag, but everything I consider buying has to be compared to these because I’ve had some very nice synths in the room with them that don’t get used often enough to justify having thousands of dollars sitting in them] so anything I get has to complement these because I know I’m not going to use something else that does similar things.
So right now the short list is Nina for the unique interface and the hybrid architecture plus that quad VCA thing it’s got going on or Protein for accessible digital flavors in hardware form.
I’ve had and sold a fair chunk of the Sequential lineup, so it’s time to admit that while amazing synths I think they’re just not for me. Same goes for the 3rd Wave, that one was just too much synth for me to feel like I was using enough of it. My experience with the 3rd Wave has me wary of the Waldorf M/Iridiums and the ASM synths. I was somewhat interested in picking up a Peak, but I felt like I’d be treading a combination of ground that I’ve left behind with the 3rd Wave and Rev2.
So I’ve either tried or talked myself out of most of the things on the market. The few remaining are mostly larger than I’m sure I can make room for. I’d be interested in trying a Polybrute (and even that I’m afraid is too similar to the One) or Magnolia, but I don’t have room for another full size KB right now.

The Haken Slim21 Continuum as a retirement project in a couple of years.
With Redshift 6 it is so easy to get the sound I have in my head and it became my main poly synth. I’m super excited with the coming Delta Waves engine that can produce D50 type of digital sounds (on a DCO machine). I also play a lot with my Fourm that doesn’t stop to surprise me and is just amazing for the money.
