What midi keyboard?

Been a few threads about midi keyboards. Ive been using my juno 106 as one for a while but I would like to start using my axiom although I cant find a power adapter for the thing.

What midi keyboards do you use with your OT, A4 etc?

Considering the recent price drop on the AKAI MAX 49, I’d say it’s a no brainier if you aren’t wanting more than 49 keys. The touch faders would be a blast for controlling the filter of the A4- but also serve as a multi-part midi OR CV sequencer (think of the touchfaders being used with the rear digital display like a linndrum sequencer- brilliant).

It can be had (and I thought I was RIPPING GUITAR CENTER OFF with a price match for $380 on labor day) for $360 in some places. Did you see that, along with the Analog 4 (And P12, Etc.) the MAX 49 was nominated for best gear of the year by FutureMusic?

Not only is it a GREAT keyboard (puts the top-end Novation controllers to SHAME) with True MPC pads and really great touchfaders with a DEEP sequencer that can also control any DAW AND act as a Midi to CV converter- and it can take a signal over MIDI usb or usual MIDI I/O. To think I almost bought a Kenton MIDI to CV box for....for $300.

Instead I sold my controller and bought this, and it’s fantastic sequencing my 30 year old SCI pro one while syncing up and controlling iPad apps- at the same time. You can also sequence the pads and keys separately- so you can have 2 4 part 64 step sequences going from 2 sources. It’s worth every penny.

It’s still quite pricey over here. I don’t have any CV gear so I don’t need CV output, and even if I did I imagine getting an A4 (which I don’t have yet) would cover the CV bases. The arpeggiator and sequencer are a cool feature but again, no need for those with the OT as the OT has that in spades.

For me the MPK49 looks like a better deal, much cheaper over hear and without all the extra fluff that I don’t need. Still the max looks nice.

As it stands I unhooked my Juno yesterday and plugged my axiom 49 in. nice having velocity and after touch and a proper mod wheel. But still thinking about getting an MPK… probably a waste of money though, money I could put towards an A4

I am quite fond of the Novation SL MkII keyboard. MIDI over USB or DIN, programmable templates, and can act as a Ableton Live control surface. The drum pads are complete crap though.

An alternative from Novation is the LaunchKey, but it doesn’t seem to be as powerful as a controller (but does improve on the drum pads).

One of my controllers is an mpk49. I have three keyboards that I could use for controllers, so I am still figuring out how to adjust my setup now that I am using an OT as sequencer.

I wouldn’t get a midi keyboard for just the A4 or OT, I’d rather buy some cheap-ish monosynth and use that as a double duty workhorse.

But that’s just me, your needs might vary.

I was thinking the same, maybe buying some old VA or something that has after touch etc and using that. The juno has no velocity sensitity or after touch or even a proper mod wheel.
