Have had a rough deal with my QuNeo, pads are OK to play but I’ve had issues with reliability with the unit. Their support is shockingly bad and it seems to be abandoned in terms of development.
@hellcore not totally right.
I use QuNeo on the AR and it’s really good + they upgraded the plugin for Live 9, so it’s still supported.
I really like the pad, and the fact that you can switch from regular drum pads to corners and thus control all Scenes + Perf + Mutes on the same surface.
As for the rest I had 3 units in total from my retailer. Even the one I have now isn’t quite right, the left rotary triggers randomly. I love the feature set but now I mostly use it for the LED light show.
I am also looking for a pad controller for the RYTM
Especially for the performance mode;
The Akai MPD 2 series would be the perfect companion; especially the MPD 226/232 cause these are standalone controllers. have better pads, and you could combine the MUTE and Performance on one controller or the MUTES on the RYTM and the Performance mode on a MPD
However the pads do not send CC messages
So I send AKAIPRO a request, they replied to me to take it in consideration, so hopefully someday they will implement this.
Any of you have experience with these kind of request at companies like AKAI?
Please find the link below: if more of us let them know we would buy their controllers if they would implement this, maybe… hopefully they would make the right move…
ps I am quite new here at this forum;
I own a RYTM and Octatrack
In de past I owned a Machinedrum SPS mk1 and the UW
Since a couple of years fully in love again, when they came up with the RYTM I could not resist to get back and just a couple of months later I thought what the hell, let’s get the Octatrack too… So so happy with these machines: They are so much fun to play, I can’t think of any musical instrument with which I had (and still having) so much fun.
No I am hoping on a MD, Overbridge enabled, updated sequencer, variable tracklenghts, Oled display… or/and updated MM… glad I am on this train again…
MPD32 with thick fat pads upgrade (MPCstuff), plus a MidiPal or similar converter, for your velocity/aftertouch --> CC remapping request, maybe iPad Lemur for more sophisticated conversions but this shouldn’t be necessary.
I had a lot of fun with the MPD32+OT+Rytm+Midipal combo before I switched to a MPC. Of those 4, the Midipal was the first component I skipped again just to simplify the setup. You can also map scenes to faders. Btw, you can also map several tracks to one fader by choosing the same Midi track on the Rytm.
Currently using my MPD 232 for battery 4, my SP-1200, and I will soon write my preset for the RYTM. Great pads.
It’s cool to use on the SP-1200 because the low velocity strikes get recognized really well.
I actually have a push 2 as my main ableton brain and use the MPD232 for the pads on the drum rack and the push 2 as a sequence controller like an MPC. I guess old habits don’t die.
I have an old push and a ni maschine studio here. the maschine studio is much better, even as the new push which I tried out. The pads are really good. you can find the exact same triggers on the cheaper maschine micro. It has only USB out, but you can use it in MIDI-Mode as well besides the maschine software. Im not shure if the normal maschine controller has a MIDI out and can run without a pc.
Best bang for your buck is an old Akai Trigger Finger. They still feel great compared to today’s standards, they’re cheap, and they work.
The Akai MPDs are really solid, unlike the Trig Finger, but they’re more expensive.
Btw, by old I mean 2 or 3 generations ago - or newer ones if you want to spend more, but I can’t comment on their reliability and feel. I’m sure they’ll be easier to program/edit than the old ones, though.
And people saying Push are funny… he wants playable pads for finger drumming unlike what the RYTM has. The Push basically has the same pads in size lol (and they’re even harder in feel).
I used a korg pad kontrol with my RYTM and as scond set of pads for my MPC1000. Very responsive and nice.
Right now I have my Yamaha DTX multi 12 rigged up to it along with a kick pedal and its great fun. The DTX multi 12 has 12 pads just like the RYTM and so its a good patch it you want to play with sticks
