Back in 2009 I got asked to help with the music for the WIred UK podcast and composed something they used for many years. I think they stopped the Podcast in 2021. Not in any way the best thing I’ve made but the only thing that will have been heard by many people.

Did an outro variant and some little bleeps and bloops for use between segments too.

This one is still 12 plays short of being my most popular track, but I believe one day it will pass 400 plays. Also I like to believe this track is a good argument for getting this groovebox.

Such a simple yet great question. On the surface a chance for everyone to share their wins, and a little deeper is shows everyone what success is for each of us, which is super valuable and transparent. I love this.

This one is probably our most successful in terms of quantity of sales and income, which is still very small. I assume this is largely due to all the people behind it fulfilling more roles across various creative areas, and the style being between rhythm and ambient/lowercase and referencing a certain era (1999-2000) electronic music.

This one sold the most copies but financially speaking cost us thousands…and for us that’s like the difference between surviving or being homeless, so a huge risk. Obviously nothing works in a vacuum and success in one, hopefully, spreads to others so we all do well, although crediting artists certainly does enable a more single purchase from a fan, over more general exploration of other music and supporting the whole label. This is one of the reasons we dropped artists, a counter to the me-me-me ego game.

And finally a personal favourite of mine and marking a “success” of a different kind, is the first release by my partner, who at this point wasn’t even sure if she “can write music”. She created it, and we released it over a weekend. Fast forward 10 years and she is doing really well, playing live shows often, releasing quite regularly, has some exciting projects line up this year, and is one of my favourite artists currently. Im super pleased with what she has achieved and my small role in supporting her makes me feel good. To me, this is succeeding.

I think on a personal level my biggest tune success was hearing someone play one of my releases in my fav club as their last tune and another time hearing a song of mine on the radio when in a taxi.

No clue how well they did or if they were ever played anywhere beyond those moments but in that moment in time I was happy hearing them and won’t forget it.

It’s funny - I’ve had a hand in so much music in my 41+ years, much as collabs or producing/recording other people’s work but my own output is not at all representative of the time and effort invested!

Now for a new approach. I am going to release a full album of my own material this year with no compromises. It’ll be good bedfellows this tune I made a long while ago which got some of the nicest feedback from people I respect.

I consider my last few albums to be my best work, theyve done alright i suppose. But eclipsed by this stupid video I did, 14,000 views.
