What Instrument Has Made You The Most Productive

Most Productive: Serum /Hive

Hw, not so productive, but made tracks with it: Analog4, Syntakt, Digitone, Sub 37

I plan to do a bit more of Analog4 again to squeeze some stuff out of it. But more as icing on the cake.

Yesterday i saw substans new video /track - really astonishing work!

Digitone 2. I think in all the noise about how deep & fun it is to sound design on (very true!) we lose sight of how robust it is as an arranger.

The DT2 sequencer was great already but when paired with DN2’s note edit, chord mode, arp etc. you get an absolute behemoth that’s just so practical at every turn. Add to that MIDI presets, great implementation of kits… Making complete songs is just an absolute breeze with it.

Opposite for me

Now I want to know how I can connect my table to Youtube!

The one that I’m most currently into!

Digitakt 1/2. Not too many bells and whistles, easy to learn workflow, sounds good off the bat. A bit light in the performance department.

Syntakt in overbridge, the basis for everything I make

would like to hear the results, sounds fun!

I would have sworn you’d say “see my avatar”.

Productive as in finished/released tracks: Ableton + Push 3
Productive as in other tangible output (sounds, sampled from): Syntakt
Most inspiring without necessarily going anywhere: Octatrack

Bonus points for the Lyra 8 as it singlehandedly launched a whole new project last year with lots of output, but currently not being used at all

Things that I can carry around with me, to turn every spare moment (public transport, queuing, etc.) into micro-sessions.

Previously, Nanobox RazzMatazz (I still think it’s great)

Now, Dirtywave M8

Software: Ableton

Dirtywave M8 has easily given me the most finished stuff. I only finished two songs and one beat in the 15ish years before I got it and now I’ve been finishing something once or twice a month for the past two years.

Other most productive stuff for learning and getting raw material have been my guitar and my crates

Sometimes I’ll get new gear and be super productive…for awhile, then need to change things up with only a few exceptions. But the excitement of a great new machine tends to bring a lot of music, or I very quickly get rid of the machine. Got back into hardware proper with a DT1 and a small eurorack skiff.
When I first got a DT1 I wrote a silly amount of tunes, most of which were terrible, but I was learning stuff. I don’t think I wrote anything that made its way onto a record with it, but man I loved that box. Within 6 months or so I got an OT and sold the DT1 with zero regrets.
OT at first, simultaneously opened up and broke my mind. Lots of trying things because I can now. Quite a few things made their way onto my first record as the Snipecatcher.
There’s an A4 in there somewhere, which blew me away, but something about it put me off and I sold it within a few months. I’d like to revisit that one at some point. For at least 5 months all I used was the OT/EssenceFM/Eurorack. Lots of music I like but also lots of failed experiments. Eurorack is a whole other can of worms I won’t get into
Next I got a Model:Cycles. Wrote quite a bit of stuff I would say was as good or better than most of my output to date. Only sold it when I got a Syntakt, which I’ve written a comical amount of music on. Genius machine.
Next, M8. Awesome, and was very productive on it. Within a year, the battery dwindled to useless, the SD card got corrupted and the screen size became a bit taxing. It sits on my desk now, but we had a good run
Digitone II is insanely great as a sound design tool and making arrangements. Might be the most fully realized Elektron box to date, IMO.
Tonverk. I feel like even mentioning the thing just invites a bunch of ill informed, troll shitposts, but whatever. I’ve been crazy productive on mine and the sound quality alone is the best Elektron have released to date. I don’t know how many times I’ve had to come up with time consuming workarounds just to play chords on OT/DT and it’s pretty awesome that I can do that any time I want now. Great fx that can be sequenced. If you wanted to get crazy, you can have 64 voices using subtracks. Has its fair share of well documented issues, but I have high hopes for how it will develop and I’m glad I bought one early

this is a no brainer for me. definitely the EP-133 and SP404mk2. 133 for composition, 404 for finishing touches. i got the ep133 at launch at the end of 2023 and these stats from soundcloud really speak for themselves.

make no mistake, im not getting loads of plays on each track, im just getting a handful of plays on a butt ton of tracks

My old G4 MacBook and Reason 3/4 was probably when I was most productive. Hardware-wise, the DSi Tetr4 was my first synth that made the kind of sounds that were in my head. Wish I’d kept it. Even the flaky editor was no impediment to me being productive with it.

ableton… and drambo for quick and nice jams

Loop Trenches is a good band name.

I had the OP1 for a bit but never really got to know it. Seems like I should have.
