I was, like 25 years ago.
I’m still incredibly bitter that for their Soft Bulletin tour they didn’t play Slow Motion (from the UK and Oz versions of album). It’s possibly my favourite song from anyone! Seen them like 6 times and still not heard it live

I still like it. He’s one of the few still trying to explore new places with psych 60s sensibilities.
RIGHT? I don’t understand the existence of that song. I picked up the vinyl in the US without even noticing the inclusion of this other song. I was shocked. And every person I’ve played it for has enjoyed it. So weird. I admit though it does kind of throw of the pace off the album as a whole and the panning is a little overbaked. A solid track, though. It’s not even on streaming afaik.
Yeah, but I got really jaded by just about every US indie band (and quite a few UK ones too) aping his sound for about 15 years.
Don’t know about their back catalogue, but them two tracks in the OP sound like Kasabian with a drum machine. Nothing interesting going on there, despite all the interesting kit on show.
Just my opinion like.
If you havent heard tame impala I would check out their studio output starting with lonerism.
As for dave Friedman…not to be hyperbolic but i think hes currently the best living producer out there. He consistently makes fantastic and interesting sounding records that always leave me scratching my head. Like, Little Dark Age sounded amazing, and somehow the new Flaming Lips sounds even better. Every single sound is exactly where it should be…those records are dense but not the slightest bit muddy.
I’ve never heard anyone say merriweather was meh lol. I think they peaked there and have had some stumbles along the way. Panda’s 2015 record (produced by sonic boom, another great) is awesome though.
It was just kind of light for my taste. “My Girls” and “Brother Sport” are wonderful tracks, but I prefer their heavier stuff. Agreed on Tomboy. Wrt to Sonic Boom, Congratulations is an underrated, unsung masterpiece.
Re Fridmann I totally agree with you (though sometimes a bit heavy handed on compression) and he’s just getting better: the albums you mention do sound wonderful; so much better than 95% of the stuff out there; great to actually listen to. These skills have fallen by the wayside in the earbud streaming age.
Are we officially OT yet?
Tomboy is great too but the 2015 record was Panda Bear vs Grim Reaper. If you like the heavier stuff you should listen to his recent Homies EP if you havent. That one is good too.
And yes, Congratulations is a masterpiece. And no, theres no such thing as being too heavy handed with compression
and also this is my topic and we can go off topic if we like lol. I think everyone answered what they could
