What do you think about AI generated music?

Artist will go back to the time of needing benefactors again🤣

:eyes:

…this fourth industrial revolution is the first of it’s kind, that unlike the 3 others before, will definitly kill more jobs than it will ever create…

no more low and mid level office jobs needed anymore…
no more transport jobs needed anymore…
no more jobs in creation anymore…

that art will not be created for profits anymore, but just for it’s own sake, is the only good news here…

so, time to shrink back in numbers, dear humans…u had ur hey days…
but even the universe is not expanding forever…

no chance on the long run, for any futher cheat codes…
see u at the campfires…

debatable isn’t it? i mean… it’s expanding at an accelerated rate. at some point the night sky will have many fewer stars because they will disappear over the horizon of what is viewable.

as for Ai and jobs… yeah… definitely… so it seems. though it’s going to be bumpy for a while as the Ai isn’t good a doing much of anything yet… but also, we’re up against it with how we are extracting resources, ruining environment, polluting all the things, killing the ecology we need to support our existence etc… so yeah… we’ve had our hay day… and the clock is ticking.

People don’t realise that computer-assisted composition has been around for decades and has already lead to at least one song in the hit parade.

…let’s not forget dimensions…the time factor remains the time factor…
how many billions of years has our sun left to shine…?
that’s quite some time left until the big black out, truu…but at some point, expansion is over, all falls back into itself and it’s time for next big bang reset…

until then, humans still have quite some time to finally grow up…won’t take too long, just a few centuries…
so no worries…the kids of our kids kids kids will live in a paradise…but also not forever…

…no further hits…just next sonic wallpapers…prompted on demand, of course…

all music cheat codes are free until summer 27…so hurry up, everybody…as long as it lasts…
as long u can…

i won’t need any ai to cheat and shortcut on my musical output…
but i can’t wait to kill hollywood big screen productions just by prompting in my bedroom movie studio…

or humans will mostly go extinct. also, it’s only a few hundred million years for the sun to swell to be large enough that it will be much closer to earth and will evaporate all life on the planet down to the last molecule. i set an alarm for 100 million years to check in. [remind me]

…reminder is set…

but let’s not forget evolution…we’re about to crack the dna code…and we’re about to further “perfect” ourselves with technical ingridients…the smartphone was only the beginning…next stop is glasses…next stop is implants and meanwhile we’re about to create godlike agi…

humans will keep on evolving and we gonna spread our conciousness thoughout the universe…

What if our collective consciousness is a manifestation of the universe itself, and so there is actually nothing to spread because there is nothing separate, nothing apart from, nothing divided, we and all simply are the universe…

Imagine how lucky we are to experience the original earth, mother of our existence, because our future generations of digital hybrid super humans will listen in awe to stories of their origin from a distant planet, long ago, in a galaxy far far away…

…yup, end of all days, all life is made out of stardust, bended by the laws of physics…
and all of its endless manifestations in countless steps of evolutionary progress are just parts of the same ever repeating cycles…from big bang to big bang…

In awe of our unmatched ability to generate memes and make cat videos.
You’ll never sing that AI!

Well, I wonder what the outcome would be if we ran the meme-threads through this…

“AI generated music is my favorite music.” said no one ever, yet, Spotify feed AI music by the millions of plays.

Behold Mr. Röhr:

This is fascinanting.

This is one of the best videos on AI music I’ve seen. Highly recommend this one just as a look at where we are at.

Not music, but some AI stand up about AI generated music…

“man becomes the sex organs of the machine world”

that mcluhan mfer said that in sixties, and it hits harder every year as we move towards the silicon soul.

Me and my kids created a 3.5 minute northern soul song for my dad for his birthday.

We used ChatGPT to write us a catchy northern soul song based on his interests, cats and family broken into Verses and a Chorus to be repeated. Requested that the chorus featured a certain line that we knew would be catchy repeated and we wanted to be the title of the track.

Used Udio.com to create a Northern Soul song using prompt instructions for intro, build, verse, chorus (and chorus repeat), crescendo, builds, fade etc. As many literal instructions for the Ai to follow to make a convincing, non-repetitive and ‘real’ sounding song.

And BOY did it deliver!

Gave us a real smash hit that is literally indistinguishable from a real northern soul track. I added some vinyl crackle, pop and noise and it’s perfect.
The drums through the track are astounding and imaginative. During the breakdown then build-up right at the end of the track it blows my mind.

When I get time I plan on dedicating a lot more time to learning and using udio.com with a goal to making an entire album with it - not northern soul though. Or, i dunno, maybe!

I think in about 6 months time the sound quality that these tools will be able to produce will be super high quality. At the moment the tools knock out what I’d say is a really good quality RealPlayer type output  like you can hear some of the compression but its not unlistenable.
I do find that this quality depends on the genre and tempo of the track.
Its good with techno, electro and northern soul.
But downtempo like triphop or instrumental hiphop you can really hear the compression-like noise.

I know a lot of folk will be anti-AI music.
I have a hiphop head friend who makes sample based beats - sampling from vinyl or from spotify/youtube. Problem is that these beats are copyrighted.
Was explaining to him that with AI you can make tracks that sound like the kind of music you are sampling from, sample those beats, split the stems etc. hey presto - copyright free great beats!

My latest feelings = models that use audio libraries are too influenced by the trainers tag choices, limited by audio quality, and just too generically bland to be exciting yet. And perhaps never will be, regardless of how the quality improves, limited by its data.

What is exciting to me is gpt 4o synthesis and sequencing interpretations, and the python code this gives you to then adapt/develop. It can create wav and midi files that are useable.
Prompting with real world data and mathematics is where it gets cool for me.

“Create a 1 minute kick drum sequence extrapolating pollen levels in west Hampshire between 1986-2009 to modulate the volume over time, randomly modulate the attack parameter between 0.01 and 0.14ms over the sequence, the kick should be at 50hz but increase the pitch by 1hz everytime the attack is higher than 0.10ms.”
This is an example but similar stuff works. But the real world data isn’t always there or indeed accurately applied yet, but will be.

I tried to get it to randomise data in a sysex file it analysed and seemed to understand the headers and what to leave alone, but not quite there yet with a usable result. But will be soon I reckon.
