so i know it doesn’t “control” other external hardware, but i’m interested to know how you guys use it’s midi, if at all…
For the moment:
Midi in: from keys
Midi out to MD for start, sto and tempo
well…
it does output CCs or NRPN for parameters & performance macros.
it also outputs notes from the keyboard, this can get quite advanced with multimap mode…
the sequencer only sends transport commands, clock & program changes…
so that’s it.
or is it? NO.
it has fast & reliable sysex transfer via the USB port, and with this you can do anything.
so are you inferring that there’s some way in which i could sequence a Yamaha TX81Z ?
i believe you can use the midi in to cv as a
midi > cv converter too
and of course the ports double up for vintage gear
mostly i direct the a4 from the ot, but there’s no reason to not do it the other way around - then i think i’d make use of the mini keys output as it’s preferable to the strange linear ot mode
then there’s usb midi to talk nicely to your ipad/lemur etc (either way) !
i think not !
I think yes.
No way… How is that supposed to be done?
And the usb to ipad?
i think not, directly !!
in which case it can control anything indirectly with a bit of mapping !
yes, indirectly…
it’s a convoluted clusterfuck of a process & yes, requires a computer/ipad, but it works… at least in a proof-of-concept manner… not sure if it’ll ever be reliable enough for release…
yeah, i like using the mini keys to trigger patterns on the machinedrum or octatrack. someday, i’d like to re-map and double back so that the keys switch patterns, parameters or something of the a4 itself, loading new performance macros would be cool…but MIDI feedback.
uhhg i hate sysex. at least with modern stuff the bandwidth/cpu isn’t quite as much an issue. i should see if i could write a program to convert sound diver setups to max…
wha ?
one strong reason for me considering the Monomachine was controlling my TX81Z (FM synth).
still, that wasn’t reason enough for me to choose the MNM over the A4.
if i can do ANYTHING w/ the A4 & TX81Z together i’m all ears.
i have an Akai MPK Mini keyboard but it’s USB only, and i have an old EMU midi keybd but it doesn’t have an arpeggiator.
Could one use something like this to turn that CV out into a MIDI signal? http://www.electrongate.com/dmxfiles/unitrigger.html
kenton makes a cv to midi converter not cheap though.
I mean i’m not here to tell anyone how to use their stuff, but really explore with what CV can do for you. it’s pretty interesting to trigger stuff via clock triggers and then p-locking different division values, messing about with s-trig and v-trig and i’m just using the gate input on my minitaur and microbrute.
I’m sure CV is super amazing and fun, but my Mellotron only has MIDI in.
[Edit: Sorry. You may have been referring to clockrva’s TX81Z.]
oh none taken, and I was just referring to anyone generally reading this thread with A4 midi complaints.
Just offering some cheaper solutions for those who don’t want to keep buying add on stuff. CV triggering external gear with audio going back into the A4 filters is very satisfying, especially having another 2 tracks of CV sequences of varying lengths.
call me crazy but I wouldn’t mind another analog four to hook up to a couple of dark energy’s and get all crazy but first I’ll get better at operating what I already own haha
Right on.
