In Eurorack: All Industrial Music Instrument modules, especially the MK3 line, alongside with a Vector12 sequencer.
This demo of the randomizing features of the PreenFM2 totally sold me on it. Probably every other patch that flies by in the video is something I could see using. The ones using panning at the operator level are especially interesting.
It does kind of remind me of the random features of the Microwave XT from when I had it years ago, so easy to find unique timbres.
My Preen euro module arrived yesterday, can’t wait to dive into it
I love being able to randomise at the page level on DIgitone: perhaps crafting a patch I enjoying and randomising the LFO page to generate fun movement I might not have thought of or got to otherwise.
Also love the layer (and pattern) randomisation on the Volca Drum: choosing to randomise a single or both layers at once can yield really interesting and unexpected results.
Syntakt patch random is very useful for a quick idea generator

Roland MC-101/MC-707/MV-1’s Zen core patch’s randomizer. Can generated usable, categorized patches which can be auditioned very quickly, during pattern playback
Roland TR-8S can generate drum patterns up to sections of 16 steps at a time, while kicking Kick fixed. Great to build some alternative beats that may work in a mix
Well, since we’re reviving this thread, let me just say: I don’t understand why every new synth these days doesn’t come with a version of the Nord Modular G2 patch mutator.
Randomisation is nice and all, and it can do that of course, but the best feature is being able to create genetic evolutions of your existing patches, for multiple generations, using your ears to guide which patches will grow into the next generation. It’s the perfect balance between surrender to chance and creative control.
A grand idea that deserves to be stolen far more often than it is.
Does Hydrasynth have this or something similar in it’s randomization, where you can target specific parameters?
Korg Wavestate. The perfect device for randomization and the randomization is quite controllable
Just want to mention Edisyn patch editor, not hardware, but useful!
https://github.com/eclab/edisyn
It has randomization and patch morphing features for all synths supported.
Lot of great shouts already. I’ll add the Nord A1’s randomize sound and mutate features, and with the ability to have 4 different randomized sounds stacked, you can get into cray cray territory.
Also the LXR 1/2s morph function functions as a quasi randomizer, and they finally added the feature to save your experiments as patches themselves. I’ve gotten some knarly percussion and laser sounds doing that. This is also the case with Norand Mono too.
Oh and the Korg OPsix as well.
Digitone but none really there is pendulate im trying right now its free.
oh that’s fun I’m going to see if the zenology pro VST has this
i’m a rare person that truly loves Zen core
i love the graphics for that…very similar to Synplant 2’s ml process graphics.

I think Virus TI2 has one!
I’m pretty sure Zenology Pro doesn’t offer the random patch creation yet, unfortunately. But I’m also a fan of Zen sounds. Highly versatile platform with a cool ecosystem around it. With better patch management, they’ll have one deep synth that can go between hardware and DAW, without it being a sample.
yup! virus never ceases to amaze me and really keeps me from buying more new gear! I need to hunt down a smaller TI Snow to put in backpack for on the go jams.
