Since I discovered he makes his beats on Elektron gear, I’ve been very interested, and impressed/relieved it’s actual hip hop, not just straight Trap with autotune all over it like most of the “rap” pervading music these days. So relieved not to have to hear an 808 on everything and cicada hihats (who asked for these hihat patterns? Not me.). Takes me back to stuff like Outkast, where they would use any drum sound as long as it sounded good. Anyway, as someone who plays mostly in rock bands and has mostly released singer-songwriter stuff, I’m enjoying this record and it’s inspiring me to focus on the OT again and to keep it simple by not thinking about whole, completed songs, but to just create music/beats for the sheer enjoyment.
